Well I guess my post of Nov 16th was a jinx for my Jeep. Twelve days later it suddenly and without warning dropped a valve seat (maybe several) and bit the dust. Engine is toast....just like that!

I ran a bunch of errands that day and made several stops. Truck ran as smooth as always. On a restart, out of the blue, it ran very rough and would barely idle. The CEL began flashing so I shut it down. My scanner showed a code of "P0300-random misfire". Had it towed to a trusted mechanic who gave me the bad news the next morning. A video from the borescope proved him right.

I know the valve seats on these motors can drop if overheated but the truck NEVER EVER came close to overheating in its entire life and I'm the original owner. What a major disappointment from my truck that I maintained so well and was sooo reliable for 153,000 miles. Still can't believe this happened. SMH.

198,xxx and I think my timing chain broke. ☹ Had loaned it to a buddy has no compression now think every exhaust valve is bent. Not sure what direction to go (jasper rebuilt engine or different vehicle)

My 06 3.7L is currently sitting at 205k. I'm not sure it's got much more life left in it though.

Not nearly as pleased with this Jeep as I was with my first car, a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Sport with that 4.0L Inline 6. I traded it in when I bought my current Jeep and it had over 650k miles on it. Only major thing I would do is once every other year I'd take the Valve Cover off and scrape out the gunk that would get built up and replace it with a new seal. That thing never let me down, drove it through many blizzards, highway miles to and from road trips, college, and vacation.

WoW! 650K+miles!

I only have a lowly 341K+ miles on my 2000 XJ.
Custom ordered it from the factory back in late '99.

Yeah those old inline 6's just keep on cranking.

190,667 miles on 2007 4.7L WK. Owned it ever since roughly 48k miles (roughly 5.5 years ago). I would love to see if I can get to 300k miles on it, but after having a little one, I'm trying to fight the itch for something a little bigger for traveling purposes. Especially when we have the little one and the dog.

250k on my 00 Jeep WJ - Minus the valve stem seals leaking a bit, its solid. Looking to take her to 300+k.

19k on my 16 RAM ecodiesel - Solid first year of ownership, minus the defective EGR which had to be replaced.

127k on my 08 Jeep WK - But already looks to be needing some investment next year. Feels like trans is starting to go, and well that with like 50 other small things has me not knowing what her future holds. But knowing me, ill end up fixing her until I realize shes got too much money invested in to just sell.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 268+ 10% from tires never calibrated for the last 80k miles. I sold the jeep about 70k miles ago and just bought it back with a dropped valve seat. Work in progress. It will be the freshest 300k mile jeep on the road with a 19k mile parts car that donated the full interior, drive train and some suspension!

2008 Commander - 151k miles

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 5.7 hemi, 256,345 miles. I have not had to do anything to the engine, transmission, diffs, or transfer case except religiously change the fluids with factory. Mobil 1 5w-20. It still has the original exhaust. I did replace shocks and struts with Bilsteins. It will still keep up with all of my friends Wranglers off road. It has been a great vehicle. I love WK's!

'06 wk 3.7. Just turned 240k. Best vehicle I've owned. Normal routine maintenance, Mobil 1 synthetic every 6k. Had a oil analysis done and the lab said that it was very hard to believe that the engine had that many miles on it, no abnormal wear, everything looks perfect. Things like ball joints, tie rod ends, diff mounts, exhaust all original. Been thru 4 sets of tires, 2 batteries, 4 sets of f+ r brake pads, second set of rotors. Changed f+r diff oil, tranny and transfer case oil twice. Nothing major-yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.
