Why Roof racks are a good thing.

Last weekend i went kayaking with my dad. (jeep is freshly detailed)

This week ive been rebuilding a deck for my g/fs mom so my jeep has been on contractor duty all week. Figures i just fully detailed it last friday and its full of tools and parts and i have to park under a tree that drips tiny little spray like sap droplets all over the jeep. it feels like sand paper when i touch anything. ARRG!

2 2"x12"x12' heavy as **** on my roof.

The back seat down loaded with stuff.

Then tomorrow when i am done with the deck i get to unload and re clean my jeep and leave the back seat flat as i am helping a friend move on saturday and i also get to tow a 12' flat utility trailer for that as well. My jeep is seeing some actualy use besides DD use, this week!

Here are a few progres spics of the deck, 20 yr old 2x stock deck made half assed. I had to go through and put joist hangers on all the floor joists, i had to bolt it to the house at the ledger board, (it was only nailed) i had to put 3 expansion bolts from the deck to the foundation of the house, re build the stairs(properly) bolt the structure together properly, powerwash the entire frame, lay new deck boards and new handrail/railing top boards. It was scary when i started.

Its going to be like a brand new deck when i am done.

Old stairs with 2x12" treads and only 2 stringers and wobbly as hell.

New stairs, 3 stringers, 2 2x6" treads per step, new hand rails.

Tomorrow i will finish up the new deck boards and unload the jeep.

Re: Why Roof racks are a good thing.

Thats not my department. Its all PT but i told her that if she does not seal it and do it on a yearly basis that it will look just like the 20 yr old crap i pulled off the deck. She does not want to be bothered with doing it yearly so i found one that more bi-yearly for her but i told her shes wasting her money now if she does not protect it. I am still amazed that it even made it 20 years with how shady it was built.

Re: Why Roof racks are a good thing.

Shes a cheapo. It took alot for me to bite my tongue on this project. I was amazed i got her to pony up the dough for the new stairs and some reinforcing and other things i had to do.

The trex is 4x as much as PT and she did not even do 5/4 PT deck boards. It was originally done in 2x6 PT so thats what she wanted me to re do it with. So the treads and the deck boards and railings are all 2x6 pt. UGH. what a bear on my blades and obv its soaking wet.

I did my best to bring the deck up to code and safety standards and though its not completely what i would have liked to see, i am still pleased with how its coming out and how much sturdier and safer it is now.
