Recently my 2007 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 began making a clicking noise from around the front of the engine. I believe it is either the VANOS system of the MIVEC system. I can't tell which one though. Does anyone know which it would be? I'd like to order my Dr. VANOS kit soon (preferably tomorrow). Thanks in advance.
sounds like the exhaust manifolds to me. The bolts break and it makes the manifolds flop and click. the fix is to install new bolts. Its most common on the drivers side manifolds

Well I have the original 4.7L before the revision (2006) and there's nothing too special about a plain old chain driven overhead cam engine. Im willing to bet that the original powertech series has no variable valve timing or lift technology whatsoever. Heck it don't even have drive by wire until the revision.
ive checked all the exhaust manifold bolts nad there all good. it has 78k miles. its not the belt tensioner bc i changed that out b'cos that's what i originally thought it was.
If your plug wires are not seated, it will give you a ticking (arcing), similar to an exhaust leak at the manifolds (run the engine at night to check for arcing)...Same thing with plugs, if they're not tightend fully...
How old is the oil? You sure it's not the lifters? Injectors also make a ticking sound...need more specific info and/or start checking the obvious.
You have a stethoscope? You can also use a screw driver or (solid) tube and press against the areas in the engine and put your ear against it...you can then better determine where it's coming from.
What kind of stupid qeustion is that?
the engine is making a clicking noise. You guys dont seem to understand that i am able to tell from the engine and drivetrain and suspension. Im not retarded
