Will 06 headlights go in 08-10 without modifications?

Will the 2006 WK headlights go into the 08-10 WK's without modifications? The reason I ask is because I have a buddy who can go to the auto auctions and he said he wouldn't mind buying a GC with Xenon's and then let me switch them out before he resold it. I could get Xenon's for free I just need to know if there's going to be any issues once I go to plug my old lights into the 08-10 GC. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Will 06 headlights go in 08-10 without modifications?

if your putting 06 lights into 08 you would need to cut those "humps"....if you went from 08 lights to 06, it would work, but you would have a gap where those humps would be.

...win. Let's hope the guy who buys the vehicle doesn't ever see this post. Thanks for the help.

Re: Will 06 headlights go in 08-10 without modifications?

There is also the issue of harnesses. The 08-10 wks with hids have a completely different headlight harness than the ones without in order to make the auto leveling projectors work. You would have to modify that harness to put you 06 lights into an 08-10 wk.

I can't find any tutorials on that. If you know of any, please link me.

Is this something a Jeep mechanic would know how to do and properly prepare for? My goal is to take the Xenon's out of the 08-10 WK and put the 06 headlights in as quickly as possible so my buddy doesn't have to keep the vehicle off the market for a long time.

Wow......nobody has ever taken 08 hids and added the 06 non-hids. You're gonna have to figure it out on your own.....

JUst buy your buddy the generic 08+ lamps off ebay they run $198 for the set I think, then you would be helping him out in the long run and still getting OEM HIDs for $198 = win / win for both of you.

I would say forget it, much too involved. As noted there would be fitment and wiring issues on both vehicles as well as headlamp alignment issues. In addition, the HID's are auto leveling which comprises a lot of complex circuitry that is integrated into the Bus/wiring system. Even if you could fit and wire the '06 lamps into the '08-'10, codes would be thrown from the auto leveling system.

As far as the Jeep mechanic goes, if he works for a dealership or other company there would be liability concerns and I doubt they would even attempt this sort of mod.

While the 08+ Halogen lamps will fit better, the harness are still different as the OEM HIDs I put into my 09 were not just plug and play with my Jeep. I had to modify my harness to with relays to make my HIDs work, and Milous said the autoleveling system for the HIDs will still throw out malfunction codes if they do not detect the motors and sensors that are in the HID headlamps. The more I think about it, you are better off looking on eBay and buying a set of OEM HIDs there. I got both of mine on eBay for $400 with shipping.
