Wind Noise...

on 2008 when I drive on the highway (40 MPH+) or if its really windy outside it sounds like the front windows are slightly open. You don't feel any air coming in so they are not actually open but it just sounds like it. It almost feels like they are not closing all the way or that there is an air leak in the seals. I noticed it happens a lot more as you go faster. I checked for damages on the weather strip, but they looks good, the only thing that it may be normal is that I'm able to put my finger between the weather strip and the door and feel the air in the exterior. The windier it is outside the louder it is from what I noticed. Any of your inputs would be appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Wind Noise...

The build quality of the WK is not so great. and there are large gaps present in body panels. For example, after washing, there's a lot of soap suds left over inside the doors, which has never happened on any other vehicle I have owned. THe WK2 however, is built on an entirely new platform with much higher tolerances, and wind noise is not noticable.

Re: Wind Noise...

There should be no wind noise... "build quality" has little to nothing to do with it. If you have wind noise something is causing it.

Do you have the cross bars? because there is a specific location they should be located to limit turbulance and windnoise (as outlined in your owners manual, also found on jeep.com). furthermore, if you have a wind noise and you have it isolated to a corner of the car, lay masking tape over the seams and drive it, lay strips in 4-6" portions, slightly overlapping, drive it, tear a strip off, drive it, tear a strip off... When you hear the noise you have pinpointed where the noise is coming from and go from there.

Re: Wind Noise...

Sorry, but I disagree; build quality (and aerodynamics) and wind noise are certainly related, as my Overland has terrible wind noise at 70 mph, while my other 2 cars do not have any at similar highway speeds. I test drove a WK2 and it was muich quieter, had almost none at same speed. The body panel gaps are much larger on the WK, compared to my other cars, and to most other vehicles.

Re: Wind Noise...

And I have a 2005 laredo without any wind noise... just because you have wind noise doesnt mean that its a shitty car that has wind noise, it means YOU have a wind noise that could be fixed, not that the entire wk lineup has your noise or even wind noise for that matter.

Pannel gaps have little to do with it, its a matter of things sticking out into air flow, or areas that allow turbulance. if you have large pannel gaps but working to the back of the car every gap is either flush or steps into the car your likely to not have wind noise.

I usually don't care or acknowledge it.

I'm going to do the tape thing, I was just wondering if it was a common issue... but since yours has no wind noise, then I will check mine to see what is the cause of it. One thing I notice is that I do not have the weather strip at the top of the windshield and I will start there.

Yup, that is the case with all WK's; where water gets in, air gets in even easier. The only vehicle I have owned, where I have to open all doors and wipe out all the soap and water left over. My other cars have less wind noise at 130 mph than the WK at 70, and on windy days like today, it is considerably worse.

Re: Wind Noise...

I have wind noise on my driver side but none on my passenger side. I paid the fee to have dealer check it out but the tecks said they didn't here anything, F#$%!s still took my money. I'll do the 6" tape to isolate, I think it's near the side mirror.

Re: Wind Noise...

I have a 09 Black Laredo 4.7 QD2 no wind noise. On my wifes 2010 dodge grand caravan driving home after i bought it sounded like the window was open. I turned out the roof rack wasnt tighted down all the way. They tighted down wind noise stopped. Worth a shot!
