WK Advice

Hi All - I am strongly considering trading down from a 2011 F150 Ecoboost with 18K miles (no problems) to a 2007-2009 WK 5.7L. Basically, I'm looking to to purchase the WK with the equity I've built up in the F150 (KBB value of F150 is $30-$33K). I'm then putting the money I'm saving by not having a car payment towards savings.

From shopping around local dealers, it looks like a used 5.7L WK with around 60-75K miles sells for $16-20K. My question then, is how is the long term reliability of the WK? Will I be able to drive it to 150K miles with basic maintenance or could I expect some expensive repairs down the line?

Re: WK Advice

I have a family member with 2005 Hemi that has 170K on it and they haven't had one issue. Basic maintenance, replaced shocks, tires and brakes. That is all.

Re: WK Advice

150k, easy! I also went from a Ford to a Jeep. I have to say that it seems to be much more reliable.
I have a WJ, but have friends with WK's only basic maintenance and the usual replacement of tires, shocks, brakes, and other components has been done to them and they run with no problems.

Another thing to keep in mind is ease of working on the vehicle. I do not know your wrenching abilities, but jeeps are soooooooo much easier to work on while doing basic maintenance ( I worked in a shop for a while and worked on many Jeeps, Fords, and Chevys).

Also something to look out for- 2009-2010 Hemis got a power bump and VVT. Could be a deal breaker for you if it comes down to a 2008 vs 2009. 2008+ WKs got a new front fascia, HID option, and improved interior also.

Re: WK Advice

Just realized I posted this thread in a sub-forum, oops haha.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the advice. I know a great deal about the WK2s and very little on the WKs!
