Re: WK Brakes

So i got a few questions for yall. Why do rotors warp? I don't think my rotors are warped yet, as when i stop there is no pulsation yet in them when breaking. I Have 36,220 miles on her and i'm pretty positive that the breaks and rotors are all original still. There is no squeaking or anything either with them, nor do i get any of the excessive break dust on my Jeep as other owners have reported.

So my questions are based off of the above information:

1. Why do rotors warp
2. If you had 36k+ miles and all original eqip with no problems would you just leave the pads and rotors for now?
3. If the recommendation is to just heck with it and replace the pads (if bad pads cause warping, of which i dont know) Then what is recommended for her?

Thanks for the information and help.

Special thanks to mister swagga himself for a pseudo thread jack!

Re: WK Brakes

1-excessive heat is one reason

2-check them....if the pad is getting thin...have the rotors turned and get new pads

3-I can recommend the stillens pads and the bendix pads

What are you apologizing for? No need bro.

But I seriously want to know what you recommend. My only concern is that it has to have low brake dust and at the same time, it has to have near OEM stopping power.

Alright. So thin pads dont necessarily constitute warping of rotors id assume then. Ill take it to a shop to have it looked at when i get a chance, thanks.

With these pads per your recommendation scott, assuming they are better performing than oe pads are, is there a concern with using thse on existing rotors?

Re: WK Brakes

I thought the oem brakes sucked...JMHO.

I bought the bendix titanium front pads and bendix ceramic rear(for the brake dust) i hear the stillen wk pads are awesome and highly recommended by Kolak

The problem with thin pads is they can "go" at anytime and ruin the rotors. I would have the rotors looked at as well and def. have them turned with new pads. There are lots of great pads out there.....Bendix, wagner, stillen matrix....the list goes on and on

I'm aware that they're not expensive, but why spend money that you don't HAVE to?

Re: WK Brakes

I agree Marlon but id rather spend some money when things are ok versus spening alot when things hit the fan. Quick example is my previous car i needed new breaks. Service and new pads were going to be something around 250. I decided well il just wait a month and a half til i go back to college since i have to commute all the time. I ended up making things worse cause the breaks and system somehow got really crappy fast and it turned into a 800+ repair. So im a bit neurotic about the breaks, which is why im asking these questions.

In your case I'd say YES, You HAD to get new pads. But I just have the brake dust issue, I don't actually need new pads. So no sense in spending money that doesn't have to be spent.
