WK Brakes placement question.

I noticed that on the WK the calIpers are placed on the rear facing side of the front and the front facing side of the rear wheel like this.



But I've noticed on a coworkers 08 Durango, and 07 Honda Ridgeline his calipers are located on the outter sides of the wheel like this....



Could this be the reason for my rear wheel getting more brake dust than the front? All my prior vehicles the front wheel would get more brake dust than the rear. I'm no engineer but I would think with the placement of the caliper on the WK like this it would shift more braking power to the rear wheel. I don't know about the SRT guys but just something that crossed my mind....

i would also believe that would lead to excessive brake dust. it has no where to blow other than the rims.

IMO...the excessive brake dust is from the oem soft brake pad compound.

Ok but what about the placement of the calipers? You think it do you think it's more effective than how the other vehicles are? the dust doesn't bother me cause I can get it off with the proper cleaner. IMO the OEM jeep limited brakes are awesome! I've had better, I've had worse but their pretty decent.

I want to know.. how many of you out there have replaced your rear brakes before your fronts? I replaced my rear pads at 36k and just replaced my rear rotors at 51k ... something doesn't add up.

Well the brake pads in the Front take 70% of the stopping power while the rear takes 30% and you saying you getting more Brake dust on the Rears? Maybe the type of pads you have. Have you replaced the rears at all?

I do. But I would think that with the caliper in the rear of the front wheel it would be less effective than the caliper being in the front of the wheel. I'm thinking thats a way to give the rear more of the braking distribution so the vehicle doesn't do such of a nose dive when hard braking. Like it'll keep the vehicle more even.

My old WK rears were shot before the fronts. The rears were so bad that the thickness of the rotors were 11.4 and the minimum it could be was 12.3. LMAO (this was at 38k miles)

My fronts were fine but I decided to replace them anyways and that led to chalkboard squeal and then I had to replace the front rotors with a better set of pads.

its easy....the pads in the rear are a different compound. When I had the stock WK brakes i changed my rear pads at like 1000 miles because of the dust. For some reason they are a different compound.
