Re: WK Headlights - Rob's version

Hello Robpp, I was veiwing your thread, i wish this might help..

I did more than a 1 month research before taking the action to insert my Halos.

The BEST way to open those lights is by a heatgun. I tried 2 sets with oven, didnt work with me, tried them with heatgun, worked like magic.

The BEST Glue that other guys on other car forums worldwide are using to seal those lights is the Nissan OEM sealer.. Rubber butyle. its what nissan use to seal their lights, and its what u can re-heat to open yout jeep lights again. i have bought it from the local dealer . I also bought the complete ACC head light HALO and fog light conversion .. but due to some of your posts and mislikes of CCFL, i am not going to install them anymore!

I am gonna switch to LED halos.. What do you recommend? ACC or Flashtech? why ? whats the difference!

i appreciate your help!

I never tried a heat gun but have recently opened another set without TOO much trouble. but I will get a heat gun and give it a try.

The issue with the butyl in a roll like that is that its too much, too thick, i tried it. 3M sells the same stuff called window-weld ribbon. I got the smallest thickness they have and it was still to thick.

so i used 3m window weld in a big caulking gun tube. it works great but as I posted can be messy. i was thinking of taking the butyl like you show, but the 3m one, and trying to slice it in half but I havent tried that yet.

For the LED halos themselves, i prefer Flashtec because:
1. aac has lots of complaints, especially from jeep guys and i feel like they sold the CCFLs and casued a few cars to go on fire. they have no problem selling stuff that can cause harm

2. flashtec provides and adjustable voltage regulator. the problem is most LEDs are made to withstand 12 v. if you test the jeep, it sends 14.4 to the lights. could overhaet the LEDs, not good.

BUT

you will need to check with Flashtec if they have any more Jeep ones in stock. last time I contacted tehm they only had a few left.

Last;

PLEASE MAKE A MEMBERS RIDE THREAD AND SHARE YOUR AWESOME JEEP WITH ALL OF US.

Thanks,
Rob

I edited my post before you replied. Custom 2 door? no door handles and door seam.
