Worn out key...................?
l have a 2005 Jeep GC 5.7 Hemi with 105k miles on the clock that i brought used 4 months or so ago ( i love it). l have 2 keys that came with the Jeep, one key has the key ring tab broken off and has hardly been used , the other key shows quite alot of ware on the metal (finish worn of you can see the brass ). lve been using the worn key as the ring tag is there and i have other keys. When the weather turned winter out the worn key would crank the jeep the engine would catch rpm rise abit as usual but instead of it settling at 800rpm (ish) when cold, or 620rpm (ish)when warm the revs would just fall and the motor die an l would a 0513 error code. However with the newer key it starts up fine and after an hours drive no error codes. lve done this twice same deal, the warn key will start the truck and it will die, 0513 error code. Change keys and it starts fine and the code goes away.
So anyone else had this? lm pretty sure the worn key is the culprit, the question is should i get a new key or get 2 new keys and a new cylinder? l dont want to wait until the ''spare'' wares out. lm not the richest guy around so if i can get away with one key that would be a result.
