Yet another Headlight Question

Hey everyone, new to the forums! I'm not so mechanically inclined which is why I have signed up here for some answers and have been doing research.

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with HALOGEN headlights.(I think..the bulbs are yellow)

Looking to buy black headlights but have only found something like this:

Spyder Auto HD-JH-JGC08-HID-BK | 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Black Crystal Headlights for SUV/Truck/Crossover

Which is only compatible with OEM HID from factory. So my question - Is there any way to get these projector headlights on my Jeep?

Or

Am I just going to have to find somthing that is specific to Halogen and paint them (my OEM headlights).. I eventually want to get a HID kit, but I know kits on Halogen headlights are pure evil to other drivers..

I just want black Headlights and not the spyder ones - doesn't matter if I have HID's or not...but will get the spyder angel eyes if its the only thing that really fits.

Thanks fellas for all the help! glad to be here!

Re: Yet another Headlight Question

Hello WKen. Sorry it took so long for you to get a response but hopefully I can explain this easily. Before I begin let me say thank you for not being one of those guys who puts HID's in their halogen headlights.

First you could find those about $80-$100 cheaper on eBay. Thought it would be good to let you know you could save a few bucks

You would need a few things to make them work.
  • Canbus Relay Harness
  • OEM Ballast (search for "Valeo 6g ballasts". I am unsure of the price.)
  • D1s bulb (theretrofitsource.com has sets at $50)

Do you have any junkyards nearby??? You could go pull off a complete OEM set from a trashed WK and put them on. You could even open them and paint them black or whatever color you would like. (This would honestly be the EASIEST way).

The aftermarket branded headlight assemblies have projectors in them that are not quite up to snuff <in my honest opinion>.

^^^ That is the reason why I am currently doing a (overly complicated) retrofit on my aftermarket assemblies. If you feel like you'd want to do something like that I'd be more than willing to help answer any questions you have.

I can also link you to the build if you would like me to.

Re: Yet another Headlight Question

also, the front bumper cover changed so you'll have some gaps under the headlights unless you put a 2008 bumper cover on.

He's got a 2008 per his profile so the gap shouldn't be an issue for the OP.

Oh yeah. That's right! Yeah, I'd definitely go with the OEM projectors then...

The headlights i'm looking to get are 08'-10' OEM HID housing, they're used.
So the only real difference between Jeeps with OEM Halogen and OEM HID are:
OEM HID headlight housing(with projectors obviously)
Ballas, Relay Harness, and the bulbs?

So after I purchase those, I should be good? No worrying about splicing into wires and such? I'm most likely going the EASIEST route lol and I should find a D1s 6000k bulb - would the bulb be plug and play too?

Sorry I misread the original post! Didn't see you said "Something like these". The Black HID housings like the ones you posted are not OEM though. The only OEM ones are chrome and are going to cost a pretty penny.

If they are true OEM Housings that come with the ballasts its a very simple swap just like this thread (you already commented here): How to Ver2: make 2008 HID WK headlights plug and play on 05-07 WK's

The other option would be to buy something like these if you're looking for an easy swap and like the black headlight look:

They are simply Black halogen replacements. If you did this I'd recommend getting a whiter & brighter 9006 bulb too. Maybe something like the "Silverstar Ultras".

Sorry took a while to respond, Just recieved my headlights i'll take pics of it. I've been looking for those headlights for a while svt i guess they just put them up for sale recently! But I picked up a set of OEM HID's with ccfl oracle's in them that i'm going to have to glue down myself, so that requires opening the headlight up.. will get pics up soon.
