Re: Amp help

Thanks for the help Matt. I ended up returning the box today and ordered the above box. I should have got a sealed box to begin with.

Twice now after turning my jeep off briefly and then starting it back up I've got this constant "heart beat" coming from the sub. Like a sine wave, thump thump .... thump thump.... thump thump. I am guessing that it is probably the amp getting too hot, it did feel warm, but not smokin hot. Any ideas? I have the amp mounted inside the cargo tray area. Thanks!

Did you check the ( RCA's ? ) I Guess you have a bad one. Also check your remote Cable ... pop out the head unit and Run Another RCA cable externaly from the head unit to the amp that is feeding the subwoofer and check if the bump goes...

True I'll check the connections, maybe one of them came loose behind the radio. I wouldn't call the base model stock cd player a head unit lol. I'm using a line out.

I think you'll be far better off with that, good call Matt.

Oh, didn't know you had a line out. That could very well be the issue.

As Hamze suggested, check your wiring there. And while you're at it be sure all of the gain pots are all the way turned up on the converter. Just make sure (if they aren't) to reset your amp gain after.

Re: Amp help

Does that thumping noise continue for awhile or go away shortly? Could be just the amp turning itself on. I think it has something to so with the wireing and not the amp or sub/ sub enclosure. And with turning a ported enclosure into a sealed the volume would probably have to go down, so it could of been sealed by adding additional mdf inside the enclosure over the port, cutting a circle piece of mdf and inserting that in the hole on the side of the enclosure and recarpet just that side. But you bought a new box, so doesnt matter. lol

Re: Amp help

It only happened twice. Each time after driving, then turning it off, and then back on a minute later. The first time was when I went in to pay for gas, came back out to drive away and to my surprise I had no bass coming from the sub. The second time was before work, I went out to leave for work, realized i forgot my work keys in my house so i had to run back in to get them. When i came back out to leave the same thing happened. Each time it happened I would drive roughly twenty minutes to my destination. At that point i would get out check the connections at the amp and test it out. Everything would work fine. Kind of a head scratcher, I'll check the line out connections and gain settings on it once I get my new box so I can test it out. Tomorrow I get to have my front windshield replaced!!! It actually happened yesterday, I went in to grab my receipt for best buy to return the box, literally inside for 30 seconds, came out to a nice 2 foot crack across my windshield.

Re: Amp help

I think there was a tiny chip that happened last spring, I just forgot about it. The crack follows the contour of the defroster vent perfectly, so I'm guessing the cold temps and the hot air blasting the windshield is what caused it.

Re: Amp help

I think it has to be your remote wire, check the line all the way back and make sure it is connected to a strong enough signal and not grounding out anywhere, I always wire mine to something other than the radio, ex lighter outlet, that always turns off when the car is off.

Re: Amp help

Should be covered under your car insurance comprehensive policy for free. I have a few nice pits in my windshield so come spring im going to crack it and get a new one, might as well get something for paying these high insurance rates in MA.
