Battery Isolator for Towing

Has anyone installed a battery isolator (automatic charging relay) on their WK2? I'd like to move my Blue Sea Systems ACR to my '14 Overland Diesel. The dealer tech I talked with said he would be afraid of frying one of the computer modules connected to the batter. I had one previously installed on my '09 Buick Enclave and it worked fine, no problems.

The ACR allows me to charge batteries in my off-road trailer while towing.

Re: Battery Isolator for Towing

Yeah I did an instructable on an installation about 9 months ago. Search here in the garage for DIY Trailer Socket Wiring, or I'll posts a link later.

Cheers,
Steve

Here's the link:

Note my isolator was previously a VSR (voltage sensitive relay), but is now stripped of the electronic control. So it's just a solenoid. Voltage spikes from Back EMF created as the coil field collapses are going to be absorbed by the battery, but chuck a power doide across the coil and you have covered your butt.

Cheers,
Steve
