I will be running a pair of Boston Acoustics SL60 6.5'' components and trying to figure out what amp is needed to power them..
The are 220 Watts Peak @ 4ohm independent so does that mean I need an amp at 200 watts max or can I push it over?
Here are the speakers specs.
component speaker system includes woofers, tweeters, and crossovers
6-1/2" copolymer woofer with rubber surround
1" Kortec® dome tweeter with flush- and angle-mount options
external detachable crossover with bi-wire and bi-amp options
tweeter attenuation circuits (0, -2, -4 dB)
grilles included
power range: 2-80 watts RMS (220 watts peak power)
don't ever concern yourself with peak and max ratings. they mean nothing always look at the rms ratings. the power range is 2- 80 watts rms meaning they can be ran anywhere between HU power to a amp that pushes 80 watts rms.
Well finally finished installing the components! I have to say.. my Rockford hit much harder than these BA's
One thing I did like about the BA's is the tweeter, it's so freaking loud! good thing I guess but the bass is weaker, maybe I do need a amp but for now I will just wait for my PAC to arrive so I can have the stock BA amp up and running again before I waste more unnecessary money.
This is what I did, not really a big deal but it came out clean.
I bet 100 internet dollars that if you were to open your xover for the components, youll find a jumper that lets you choose (well normally they do) +3, 0, or -3. Set the jumper to -3 and it will fix your really high tweeter issues. If you are not careful, you an cook tweeters by underpowering them and with the db booster up.
There are many more names in this range but never heard a bad thing about these guys and from everyone I've heard they are pure amazing!
PLUS they're made in the good ole' USA!
If you want a great amp at a great price check out the Sundown Audio Sax100 x 4. It is not quite on the same level as Zapco, Dls, Helix, Zed, Stetsom, or Audison but is twice the amp of a overpriced chinese made POS JL.
Most amps are rated at 14.4v, something not often seen in a typical car setup. JL amps will deliver the rated output "at any impedance between 1.5 ohm and 4 ohm per channel, at any vehicle voltage between 11V and 14.5V."- per JL Audio's website.
