Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

I'm wanting to install the Blackvue Power Magic Pro & the DR650 dash cam.

The power magic pro manages the power to the dash cam and requires a switched 12v and an always live 12v as well.

I was planning on doing the fuse box add a fuse adaptor trick but the fuse box is under the hood on the 2014 Grand Cherokee so was trying not to have to attempt to somehow get through firewall.

Other than the 12v accessory socket in console under stereo and in console storage bin. Are there any other easy to tap switched 12v and always live 12v points under the dash that are reasonably easy to access?

Been googling it and getting nowhere.

Ive seen the DR500 install video but but that's not what I require.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

Do you want it running for a fair while after stopping the car??? If not, don't other with Power Magic Pro. It is an unnecessary expense and hassle.

See this thread, I have the 650 as do a few others in the thread - Dash Cams - Down Under
There are install pics.

See also this 500 install thread as an option - Blackvue DR500GW-HD DashCam Install

I currently have mine using the power point in the media cubby which is only powered when the car is on.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

Cheers. Was planning on park and event mode so wanted it running after ignition is off for quite a while. The power magic pro was only AU$25 when purchased with DR650 so not much really.

I might just tap into the two accessory sockets. I believe the armrest console outlet is live all the time. Was just hoping both sources would be at the front rather than separate locations.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

Yes armrest is live. There is an icon next to the sockets which only picked up on when I realised the damn thing had been recording for 2 days. The icon in the media cubby is a Key indicating ignition related, the armrest has a battery.
The expense wasn't an issue for me, my mate who sells them said it would just be a waste and hassle for installation unless I parked in areas where we didn't really want to leave the car frequently. ie dodgy areas.
It was the install hassle that put me off in the end. How I have it now was piss easy to do, except that bloody tail gate section.

Good idea to update your profile to have some form of location so people know your from Aus. Different locations have different specs from what you can do wiring wise.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

Thanks for tips. Profile now updated.

I looked at the over head console as a power source. On that Grey wire shown in the install I never managed to get 12v from that wire. Tried a number of combinations to activate it but nothing. It was mV readings I got. There were some 5v, 12v and high 11v full time live wires up there but that Grey one stumped me.

Ended up running a wire from behind the media cubby accessories socket in the end.

Thanks again.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

I've got a DR650 with a Sandisk 64GB SD card. It randomly says please check the SD card. Anyone have that happen. I though it might be cos its full but the recording cycles so I don't think it's that. It records just fine normally I've check the files. I can power down boot up and it does it again almost strait away. I can power down remove the card and reinsert, within minutes it says the same thing. I swap the SD card out with my spare one of the same type and same problem.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

Is the firmware up to date for the 650?
When did you last format the card? It does suggest you do it every 2 weeks which seems like overkill.

Latest firmware is here - BlackVue - Full HD 1080p Dash Cameras with GPS

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

Running 1.003

I have replicated the format type the Blackvue 32GB SD card that came with it was formatted as on my 64GB SD cards.

If I use the Blackvue itself to format them I can't read the SD cards on my Mac.

Yes, formatting every 2 weeks sound extreme.

Is it a voice prompt telling you about the issue? I have all voice notifications turned off.

Yes an annoying repeating voice notification. Do you think it is still going to record even if that is happening? I will test that.

Re: Blackvue Power Magic Pro & DR650

I've formatted the SD card using the Blackvue so will see if that stops it or not.

I'm the author of that Blackvue install post - your comments about the gray wire I detailed as the power source got me to wondering, so I just pulled my overhead console down and checked it again - I get 12.6v consistent on the gray wire with ignition set to run.
