and bumping_jeep did you ever change your sub box? if so you need to post new pics of your settup
This summer I plan on doing it. I wanted to try fiber glass because you can do some sick stuff with it, but after having it in the back I've realized it's just not for the Jeep. So I'm going to change it up when it's warmer out, pretty cold in Chicago right now. I plan on doing something simple with a nice big oval ring with speaker grill cloth to cover the subs, then wrap it in leather. I'll definitely have pics up when I'm done. Also considering sound deading the hell out the Jeep, found a place that has good material for $1 sq ft.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

wow a buck a foot!!! i would stick that stuff on everything for that price. I have to wait till the summer for my sub install also (sucks). i will be doing a false floor type install for my subs. I am into the more simple and stealth installs now.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

Yea, I agree with you. Simple stealth is the way to go now. It just looks nice and clean, plus my wife is not constantly looking at it thinking, "how much f**king money did he spend on this?!" hahaha.

FYI - when I created my false floor I put a brace down the middle and covered it all in black carpet, well worth the $10 for it. And then I used peg board as the floor with some gray carpet. I like the peg board because it allows air to circulate down to the amps. Just make sure you have a brace in the middle since the peg board is not the strongest.

Man those tweeters look sweet. How do they sound? I have the OEM BA speaker/amp upgrade. Would I still have to use Bass Blockers for these tweets on my set up? Thanks for any feed back.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

I still can't believe no one has tried to cut some of the dash out and put 4" speakers in there. I'm really consider taking a closer look at doing this.

been there done that i have a pair of infintiy kappa 4" that i bought for that very purpose. its not even close!!! i sure thought i would be able to do it, but if you want to try it i could send them to you cheap.

and yes use the bass blockers even on the ba system. cheap insurance for some expensive speakers, and i would at least put a pair of good 3.5" speakers in the dash. you will notice a huge improvement.

thanks for the help Butch!

Not to be nit-picky (though the bass blocker isnt a bad idea) but if you are using the factory BA amp, you wont need them since its sending out a different signal to the dash than a low freq signal to the door. Drop in the aftermarkets and walk away, I say.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

Are you sure about that? Not trying to be smart, just wondering if you know this for sure? i know quite a few people who's ba 3.5" are blown so i assumed they not crossed over because i know for sure the non ba system sends the same signal to the dash as the doors. I could be wrong though. and if it is crossed over then yes you are correct, the blockers would not be needed.

Hmmmm......wish I had an extra dash laying around to try cutting up, lol. Thanks for the offer on the speakers but I have a set of 4" components which is why I was thinking of it. If I could get the speakers in the dash I would flush mount the tweeters in the pillars for a nice touch.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

Well, why would the factory amp send that kind of signal to those sized speakers? Besides, those infinity's posted above have their own cross overs in them anyway.

It would be sweet if you could do it that way. just pull the dash grill off and put the 4" in there and see. but from what i saw it would take alot of work and maybe some fabrication. But you could do the same thing with a 3.5" pair of componets. i dont think you would here a huge difference from the 4" and the 3.5" that was what i was also thinking of doing. but i just went with the coax for ease of installation.

I don't know why they did that. but like I said I know for sure that the non ba systems do send all signals including low pass to the 3.5's. a easy test is to just pull the dash grill's off and but some bass heavy song on turn it up and if it starts jumping then you know it's not crossed over, (which i did in mine and it was jumping like crazy). and as for the infinity's crossover, they do have crossovers on them but it crosses out the low pass for the tweeters and allows the lower signals to be reproduced by the 3.5". it does not cross out the low pass signals. The reason for that is some cars only have 3.5" for the front speakers so then they would play full range in that situation.
