Re: Butch's 2010 install

I have to re-birth this thread, what an awesome install! That is so clean looking and the sub grille looks pretty sweet too. Definatly giving me some ideas on what to do to my WJ.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

Wow thanks for the compliment. I'm glad you believe it came out pretty nice, but the best part of the whole install was the absolute no loss of cargo area, which is very important for me. Anyone can take this exact design and put many different combinations of speakers in. The one i made was for 2 12's (even though i only used one) with all the great shallow mount subs out now anyone could put up to 4 8's or even 4 10's in this same design. Hell if you Buy some of the new mini amps, relocate them under the seat and make the whole think a box your talking 4 12's, 6 10's or a assload of 8's, if you really wanted to get crazy, and all without losing any cargo space!!!! If you (or anyone) ever have any questions just hit me up. I’m always willing to help. Hell i live this crap. LOL

yeah man it really doesn't get much better than that install...clean, simple and no loss of cargo area! You already know my thoughts on this setup (amazing!!!)

Re: Butch's 2010 install

I am thinking about doing a very similar build and I was wondering if the plexiglass over the sub affects the sound at all, nice job by the way, very clean install

Re: Butch's 2010 install

From what I know, the plexi does not have as much of an impact as the size of the box, tuning and/or port...it may disperse the frequencies a little but not nearly as much as box size and port/non port...

Thanks. Glad you like it. As for the plexi it has little to no effect to the sound I tried to change the sound by removing the plexi and even pointed the opening in different directions. All with no change in sound.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

If you want it flush like mine. The subs have to be 4" deep or less. Any bigger you will have to start building it up.

Re: Butch's 2010 install

A few questions for you! (By the way, awesome install! Ideas are popping in my head for the future cargo build i'm going to do.)

1. How is that plexiglass mounted?
2. Are the amp's getting hot underneath?

Thanks!

Re: Butch's 2010 install

Well as for the plexi you can get as creative as you want. But mine is pretty simple. I just cut 3 strips of mfd around 1 to 2" thick and wrapped them in the same carpet I used for the box. Then i layed them where I wanted, measured the distance and cut the plexi to fit. Then drilled the holes through the plexi, and wood strips and then screwed the screws through the pelxi, wood strips and face of the box. If you don't want to cut just go to your local glass place and they will cut one for you. You can even get a tinted one which look really nice also. Now for the amps. Mine never get hot or cut off. There is quite a lot of room under there. If you go with the new digital amps you will surely never have a problem. If you have anymore questions just ask. I'm always happy to help.
