Connecting Accessories to Canbus System

I've installed a UHF CB radio in the Grand Cherokee. At present I have it powered by a cigarette lighter plug connected to the outlet in the console.

That looks messy. I want to permanently wire it in but I'm getting conflicting stories about how it should be done.

For example, I'm told that if not wired in correctly the charging system won't detect the load and the battery will flatten.

Now, this makes no sense to me as I would've thought that the charging system would charge the battery if its voltage was dropping.

One option is to directly wire it to the battery. The CB base unit is mounted to a bracket under the driver's seat and the cables run inside the centre console (there's a removable side cover).

Any help on this appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Connecting Accessories to Canbus System

Without finding any definitive or authoritative info I've gone ahead and connected the unit directly to the battery.

It's not the easiest thing to get at, either.

I'll see how it goes with the battery. Should be OK, I hope.
