Re: Double Din help!

Hahaha thanks for the great read... sounds like you have a piece of shit soldering gun and you took advice from some dude at lowes. I'm sure soldering the crimps would be better for piece of mind, but just heat shrink them for now until you find a good gun online. I've never soldered shit before but maybe someone else knows a good gun to recommend.

And about the nav bezel.. return that shit and enter in the p/n @ www.moparpartsamerica.com and you'll save well over 5%..

Re: Double Din help!

Thanks for that link matt...I'm definitely going to look into that.

Also, one more q...There's two yellow (power) and two black (ground) coming from the c2r harness...how do I hook those up when there's only on yellow and black on the pioneer harness?

Re: Double Din help!

Dude, just crimp and heat shrink over, that's what I did. Return the solder torch and get a decent stripper/crimper (I think I got one for like 15 bucks). Just make sure you get the big package of (I think it's red) crimp connectors. Remember to put the (cut to size) sleeve of heat shrink on one wire before you crimp. Use a lighter to heat the heat shrink and voila!

Hmm, I've never seen that before. My only guess is that it's for hooking up another unit (like an external EQ or CD player, etc). I'm willing to bet they both work, so just hook up to one.

Re: Double Din help!

That's exactly what I did...one is going to the fuse that connects to the SWC connector

Re: Double Din help!

Is it the pen size butane torch, needs a lighter to light it? If so thats the one I have, came with a bunch of different tips too for soldering. I luv it. What tip do you have on it? when I solder I slide the regular tip over the torch part, then have to slide the tip up while the red button is on position and the little adjuster is all the way on, then light the butane thru the middle hole till it catches, burns nice, then slowly let the tip slide back down and the torch should start glowing red and gets insanely hot, in a few seconds the tip should be ready to go.

Re: Double Din help!

I luv my butane torch. The only thing I dont like is needing to refill it, so I bought two cans of the refills so I wont run out all of a sudden in the middle of soldering. With just the torch I was able to melt sheets of lead flashing together when doing my cargo area.

Torch with the soldering tip on it.

To light it slide the tip up, its spring loaded, then light the middle hole and it should catch(shown with the red arrow). Make sure the red button is all the up to the on position and the little black tab(blue arrow) is turned all the way to full, thats the adjuster tab. After its flaming let the tip slide closed and the torch should then start glowing red and the flame goes out, gets really hot.

Re: Double Din help!

NEW PROBLEM.

I'm taking it to the shop next time. Now I can't get it to seat correctly. With the metra harness in one way the deck fits fine but the nav bezel doesn't fit over it because the deck is too low. With the metra harness in the correct position I can't get the deck to go up high enough to screw into the right holes but in this position the nav bezel would fit correctly.
Any ideas?

Re: Double Din help!

Not sure im following, you talking about the wiring harness making the nav bezel not fit right?

I have the PAC harness, and there was plenty room back there to shove all my wires and rca cables and have the deck fit properly.

Re: Double Din help!

No I don't think it's te wiring harness. Soemthjng (I think it's these metal pieces that touch the top of the radio) is keeping me from seating the pio unit correctly

Re: Double Din help!

^^^ wish I could help, but have no idea. I dont know what your talking about, looking at , dealing with.

I do know when I installed my cd player with the nav bezel i didnt think it would fit, but after taking my time it ended up working and fitting perfect. Just take your time with it, try different things and it should come to you.
