Hello Im new and in need of some help

Hello every one, Im new to forum. Im very happy to be a part of the jeep groups now!!! Its a silver 1998 jeep grand chreokee limited 5.2, and I love this thing.

Today (12-18-10) I got the viper 5901 installed, and wasn't to happy about it. The installer said to me (after) installing the unit, that the "remote start" will only work on the 2 new remote, and I have to use the old stock remote to lock/unlock the car. He said he is going to order this other part for $50 more to get every thing working rite.

dose this seem right too any one? or is he trying to get a few more dollers from me?

If any one have any infomation or can give me some advise on how to hook it up my self would be great.

thanks you for every one help, time and info!!!

Did the viper unit you ordered come with the module for lock/ unlock? If not then he may have to order it.

Re: Hello Im new and in need of some help

dunno how much it matters cause of the different model GCs but when I got my viper installed I needed a module, and the module made the installers install so much easier. But anyways, my new remotes do everything off of them, no need to use the old, but I can use the old if I want to, arm/disarm/lock/unlock only

This is what I was afraid of. Does anyone have a link to the additional module thats needed for the install? I just bought a Viper 5701 that I want to install myself. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Hello Im new and in need of some help

I think im getting stroked too from an installer. I just bought the OEM style Avital alarm, which I wanted because it let's me use just them OEM key fob. My WK never came with a factory alarm. The unit itself is only 80 bucks, but then the installer/owner of the shop starts in with how "complicated" it is to wire 05 and up GC's because of the canbus unit. 220$ he said for labor, which I think is insane, but I said screw it because im using a 300$ gift certificate I got. But wondering if I should try installing it myself, and using the gift card for something else.

I was told by a shop I trust yesterday that the '05 JGC (dont know if its just '05s) is one of the few vehicles that require an extra module for remote start. Its the idatalink ADS-ALCA fyi.

Re: Hello Im new and in need of some help

Is it the module to bypass the CANBUS factory security system, so it is able to remote start without a coded key in the ignition?
