LMAO I was wondering the same thing when I did mine, I think it actually helps in terms of sealing the connection, maybe to keep moisture away. It took me a while to figure it out and I only used it on one side since it was getting messy, I just said f-it and used butt connectors lol.

You know this mod isn't too bad, I mean when I did it I was scared crapless but knowing everything now, it seems like an straight foward process. But I'll admit it was intimidating since I had no experience.

Re: Help with Dual color blinker LEDs

The jelly is to hopefully keep water from getting to the wires so they do not rust or oxidize. Indoor splice connectors do not have the jelly stuff, outdoor rated splice connectors should or are marketed as working outdoors from what I read. BUT, if I was going to install mine again I would of soldered the resistor wires and used heatshrink over the solders. The splice connectors appear flimsy to me.

Re: Help with Dual color blinker LEDs

yeah i'm doing mine today. i got resistors from ebay and soldered the wires to the resistors last night and put heat shrink over them, i also put electrical tape over the heat shrink, just in case i think i might do the same to the turn signal wires as well. just axe the splice connectors all together(since i bought mine from radio shack and they don't have the jelly), or i could use the splice connectors and just tape them up after.... choices choices

Re: Help with Dual color blinker LEDs

I wouldnt use electrical tape on any outdoor wiring. Water can still find its way under the tape, and its also a mess to remove leaving sticky adhesive all over the wires. Heatshrink is the best thing to use and its cheap at HomeDepot.
