Help with Sub & Amp

Yesterday I was driving and stopped at the local 7-11. When I got back in, my subs weren't working. Before that, they were working fine with no issues.

I'm currently have an Alpine MRP-M500 with 2 12" JLw1v2s. The initial subs and amp were bought in February of 2011. Subs were replaced in October.

I've checked all wiring making sure everything was attached and had come lose. The fuses. The ground wire.

Any thoughts?

Did you leave the subs playing while you went in? (If yes then the amp could have gone into a protect mode for various reasons. Shutting down the system and starting up again would resolve the issue unless it the amp needed time to cool down).

Was it a hot day? How hot? (some amps will shut down at extremely high temps).

Do you push your subs hard to the point of distortion? (distortion is the #1 killer of speakers).

Did you check the fuse at the batter for the amp?
How about the fuses at the amp?

Is the amp shutting down or going into a protection mode? (caused by overheating or too much distortion at the subs causing the amp to shut down).

If you press on a sub (with the system off) does it move smoothly or is it stuck or feeling like sandpaper? (smoothly is a good sign, stuck means you melted the voice coils and rough means there could be an issue)

If you can put a meter on the subs and take an impedance reading. (impedance is Ohms and should be taken at each sub with the wires disconnected).

No I turned the car off when I went in.

Somewhere between 95-105. I've stopped looking at the temperature gauge over the past two weeks.

No. I run my sub at 11/15 with bass set at -1. I probably had the subs going at 20/35 volume which is within the normal range I run them at. The song that was playing doesn't hit very hard either.

I checked the fuses on the amp and they both were intact. I have to yet to check the fuse for the battery/amp connection.

I will do your press test later tonight. I have been looking for my meter for the past day. Once I find it, I plan on doing an Ohms test.

EDIT: Did the press test they are smooth.

I appear to have figured out the problem. After re-checking the fuses, ground wire, all wires, and making sure that no wires were being pinched. I thought I definitely had blown subs. I took off the mesh guard and did the press test but no noise and the subs moved smooth and perfectly. I was stuck. The only thing that I hadn't checked was the electrical wire that runs from the battery to the amp. I never checked this...well....because I could never find it. I could follow it up until it disappeared into the firewall and then I lost it. So after not being able to locate it, I decided to go and clean my battery to help remove some of my frustration (I had noticed a bit of corrosion). As I'm trying to remove the terminals to remove some of the corrosion, I see that I have a random wire attached to the screw of the positive terminal. I start to chip away and realize that its my missing electrical wire! Yah!! Only problem? It's dissolved into two pieces.









I dunno what this piece is but I can almost guarantee its not supposed to look like this.

I plan on going to the audio shop tomorrow and seeing what they say.

That unknown item is a fuse holder. It's supposed to be see through ago you can see the fuse.
Ask for a circuit breaker and a nice positive terminal to replace that crappy O ring they used.
And use some battery anti corrosion stuff. That ruin your day if it happens to your main cable.

I went to the shop and they replaced everything, gave me a better o-ring and a thicker wire with anti-corrosion on it. It cost me $4 so I'm not really complaining. Plus, I'll keep a better eye on it now that I know what can happen. Thanks for responding!
