is it easy to wire up a new aftermarket headunit myself with a kit or should i just take it to the professionals and have them do it? ive had a sony xplod headunit in my garage for awhile and was woundering if anyone has wired up their headunit on their own or if you guys take it in and get them installed.. ive done everything to my jeep on my own with my dads help here and there (except the window tint, ive tried and failed so i get that done by the pros lol) thanks in advance to any advice
I would take it to a reputable shop. But I would also save up for something with more quality then the sony. That's just me though, if I was paying to have it done right I'd get quality components
If you’re not shy about working on stuff I'd say go for it. Do a lot of research first to find out what you need and check out some of the awesome stuff other Jeep owners have done on here.
i EFFFFFF mine up lmao blew like 2 fuses wired it up wrong and stuff my pops took one look at it called me an idiot and fixed everything.... so it cant be that hard cause he fixed it in like 15-20 minutes tops
Yeah, if you buy the correct harness, it's pretty much plug and play and you don't damage any of your factory wires. I've never had a problem and put VERY little faith in "professional" installers. Some pimply faced 19 year old who's doing this for video game and pot money is not my idea of a "pro" anything.
I actually on Friday installed my Alpine CDE-123 in aprox 30 minutes. That included removing the old radio, connecting the harness together, then plugging it all in.
Go to crutchfield, or sonicelectronix and once you buy whatever head unit, they supply you with all need materials.
I bought my HU from crutchfield for 199 w/ shipping. included the HU, wiring harness(which they had for $30 cheaper than SE), the dash mount kit, and an antenna adapter (which I actually REALLY needed, the normal plug wont work with aftermarket HU's)
AND it came with a huge packet of papers. They were instructions for doing EVERYTHING step by step!
-I didnt need them, but in your case it would be VERY beneficial.
