infinity kappa speakers help?

I have a pair of infinity kappa kappa 62.9I speakers with 2 small tweeters from old car. I got these through insurance replacement but only had to use one of the tweeters. SO I HAVE 2 KAPPA 6.5 INCH speakers i want to put in the cherokee.

My question, how would i go about installing these front door speakers since i wont be using an amp, and i have a stock Head unit (for now)?

thank you for all the future help!

Re: infinity kappa speakers help?

Just mount them and hook up the existing speaker wire. You may need to splice if there is a factory clip and if you do so be aware you wont be able to hook it back up to the stock speakers easily. Id recommend a cheap headunit. Alpine makes good stuff for around $100 or so that would make your system sound 100x better! GL w/ the Kappas, I have them and love em!

Re: infinity kappa speakers help?

if you're mounting them in the front doors, you will need an adapter plate as the factory size is 6x9. most aftermarket 6x9's wont even fit in the stock location, so the adapter plates are common. The wiring can be spliced I just can't remember the wiring color codes off the top of my head though. If you look into speaker adapters you can find wire adapters that will alow you to connect factory wiring to aftermarket speakers without any cutting. try crutchfield to get an idea of what u need.

Re: infinity kappa speakers help?

also the kappas will mount in the rear doors without an adapter, the factory size is 6.5 in the back.

its ok to mount the 6.5s in the back even though they are front speakers? is adding these speakers a good idea or should i just leave stock ones?

Re: infinity kappa speakers help?

Yes you can put them in the rear doors. Honestly you won't notice much of a difference in sound running them from the factory cd player. if you upgrade the hu they will be more noticeable and they really wake up if run off an amp. it takes 5 seconds to pop the door panels off just put them in and get a matching set for the front i nthe future. again you will probably need a 6x9 to 6.5 inch mounting adapter for the front doors.

Re: infinity kappa speakers help?

I am a big fan of the Kappa's and have been running them for years. I hope you know that they are a power hungry speaker and they will not like being ran from a factory head unit. They will work but one of the main killers of speakers are not having enough power.

+1, they need power! They sound excellent though, must say its not a hip-hop type of speaker, its definitely a rock oriented speaker though, form what I've heard first hand. It just loves those sounds and frequencies, plays them like no other.

And like mentioned, a speaker is a speaker so if its a 6.5" id throw in in the back for now. Then once you get $ grab some of these for the front:

And this headunit would be a nice nav unit w/o breaking the bank I've heard good things about it. I was looking at this and the step up the AVN726E and ended up w/ the 726E mostly for its screen and some other sound compnenets. All in all Eclipse is the way to go imo, g/l and keep us posted
