Kicker amp failed

So I was bumping my way down the street listening to Alice in Chains the other day when my system went dead! After removing the Kicker amp, I installed the Boston amp back into the system and it works, so the Kicker did blow as my fears were confirmed. I know I can get another Kicker for a decent price at J4J, but has anyone tried an after market amp to power the Kicker speakers? If so what was the result? Just looking to investigate my options before I buy the Kicker replacement. All insights appreciated guys!

Re: Kicker amp failed

If you have an extra amp that will power the speakers, use it. Kicker amps are good but expensive. I like rockford fosgate the best. Its up to you if you wanna drop extra cash ya kno?

Re: Kicker amp failed

you would need a harness. also the way the stock amp splits up the signal might be a big factor. ie: front doors are woofers only. dash is the mid and high, rear speakers are full range. you would need to crossover just like the stock amp UGH

lots to consider if you swap it.

HAHAHA! Dont think Ill do that Pal! Well I do have the Boston amp pushing them but it sounds like shit for sure. Just not the same clarity in the speakers. I know Crutchfield has a lot of harnesses to adapt to the stockers out there, I wonder if they do for ours. Sounds like maybe Ill be ordering the new factory Kicker. See I tried to be cheap and instead of ordering a new Kicker upgrade from J4J I bought a several year old used upgrade from a member on here, two weeks after install...... BOOM! DAMNIT!!!!!

Re: Kicker amp failed

Its not too late call kicker. they might have a place where they refurbish units.. I had an expensive ass amp blow and kenwood refurbished it for 80$. worth a shot, esp since you like the sound you had before
