Now that I finally got a hold of a nav bezel, I need to start looking into units to put in it! What nav unit's (besides stock) are you guys throwing in these days? I would like a touch screen w/ nav for sure, 6''+ on the screen size as well. What are some opinions you guys might have for a good solid unit?
Please let me see some pics of those aftermarket nav installs too!
Do you plan on using the navigation much? If so, there's only one manufacturer I'd recommend: Kenwood. The Kenwood DNX units use NAVTEQ mapping system (US military-based) and Garmin GUI; Hands down the best interface for GPS systems. The other big-name manufacturers (Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse) all use TeleAtlas mapping systems (sub-par compared to NAVTEQ).
Navigation aside, most units on the market offer the same features: bluetooth, iPod, limited audio presets (aside from the DNX 9140 or Alpine w505 + H701 processor), 3 sets of RCA pre-outs, high-pixel count, and widespread expandability.
haha, just passing on what I've gathered. If you've got some dough to spend then go with the DNX 9140... simply the best double-din on the market right now. If the price tag is a bit steep then go with the DNX6140. The Alpine units are nice, but they come pretty stripped down, and once you add the bluetooth/nav/ipod/ect that the Kenwoods come with, you've just spent a lot of money, lol. The Pioneers are also decent, but, as I mentioned before, their nav system is just not in the same league as the Kenwoods. Your best bet is to go to a local shop and check them out for yourself. Find out which ones you are comfortable with and go with that.
great thread, was thinking bout goin in this direction! gave a look @ j4j mygig and it was close to 2k. just dont see myself spendin that type of $$ on it. but kenwood looks good.
