Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

While I really didnt use the feature a whole lot, it was still cool... do the instructions provide what wire to hook up to the lockpick in case we want to have the feature enabled over 10mph?

Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

While I can't confirm on a 2014 JGC as I haven't tried it on mine yet, a fellow forum member (scjon03) successfully added it to his new Ram pickup which should have a very similar wiring setup. He tried most of the wires we thought it would be but finally applied the 12V power from the Lockpick to the LIN BUS wire in the harness bundle going to the tailgate. Per the schematic below that looks to be a orange wire with a dark blue stripe (ironically, the same color wire on the Ram harness).

However, like I mentioned in my previous post when he did this he lost the backup lines from the display. So he installed a single pole switch in between the LockPick and the tailgate harness and could toggle the Lockpick power feed off an on to retain total stock display of the rear view camera. So it would go...

Lockpick 12V camera power supply wire---switch---tailgate harness wire---camera

Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

Looking to get a pair of black headrest with monitors in them. I see there are a bunch on ebay from size 7in-11.2inch. Anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

Tvguy,

The Rosen AV-7700's are what I have and I think these are the only units that don't interfere with the active head restraints in the jeep. They are pretty nice as they are two independent DVD players that allow each tv to play a different movie and it also comes with some built in video games. Granted, the games are not xbox quality or anything but they will pass the time. I paid about $2k for them. I would have preferred the factory units but they weren't available when I bought mine last July. Good luck

Thanks crgad. I am actually just in the market for the headrest monitors no DVD player just RCA input as I am going to playing the videos from the main unit through my iPod and the lockpick.

So was looking to spend a couple of hundred on decent monitors.

Ahh ok. Just make sure whichever units you buy don't interfere with the restraint system. Good luck

Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

Here are some updated instructions that include front camera installation tips.

My LockPick installation is finally complete. I received my updated module from Coastal and finally figured out what I wanted to do for a front camera.

No issues to report. The herringbone interference is gone. Front camera works seamlessly the only small issue I have is that I cannot reverse the image using a jumper on this camera but that's not a big deal. I use it to make sure I won't hit anything when parking.

Installed camera next to ACC radar

Stock backup camera image for reference.

Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

CHR558 - Coastal Electronic lockpick,

Installed....... but

Dear Forum I have it and all functios are working, have only an anoying problem, when I call the lockpick menu, the display is not clear, flicker on the screen, It looks like as an old film... and when I play videos from my Ipod it is not nice to see such flicker on the display.

I follow this document (attached to the Uconnect Touch 8.4 2013-2014 upgrade software)
Set DIP switch 3 to the DOWN position (which is opposite of the instructions included with the LockPick). They do
mention this in the graphic on page two of the instructions which illustrates the configuration of our SRTs.
The Original documentation writes to put it UP for the GC 2014
Has any one of you installed it on a GC 2014, do you have such flicker on the display?

Regards.

Manuel

Manuel,

That really sounds like a bent pin in one of the connectors. It is easy to do and I have done it before and had issues with my stock backup camera on my WK1 SRT8. Double check ALL of the connector pins to make sure you didn't accidentially bend one. Regarding the DIP switch position #3...it doesn't matter on 2014 SRTs whether it is up or down. We have had people install it both ways. I have with switch down and have had no issues.

You may also want to make sure that none of the pins have pulled out of the backs of the connectors as well.

The flicker...is it a series of lines that zig zag across the screen or a true on/off flicker? The series of lines is the herringbone interference problem that they have fixed in the latest hardware set. I have the latest hardware set and I have zero flickering or herringbone interference lines.

Keep me posted on what you find out.

Re: Lockpick CHR558 Install Instructions - 2014 SRT

For those with CHR558 LockPicks there is a software update to version 1.5 available from CoastalETech's website. Downloading the firmware updater and new software file are the easy part but flashing the software is a bit challenging. Here are the proper steps as Coastal is a bit vague on their website.

1. Download the CHR558 firmware update program and version 1.5 from their USB Updates section of their website.
2. Install the Firmware Update software on your laptop
3. Use the same setup file to load the USB drivers on your laptop to communciate with the LockPick
4. FLIP THE #4 DIP SWITCH TO THE DOWN POSITION TO ENABLE FLASHING (this is the step I struggled with as there is a tiny blurb about this on the update page and it wasn't until I did this did the firmware update program finally communicate with the LockPick (this may only be required for 2014+ Jeeps)
5. Run the update utility and flash to version 1.5. You will need to go through most of the steps for the update and then turn your Jeep OFF before actually flashing the software. This took a couple of attempts to get it to talk to the LockPick with the Jeep OFF before it finally started flashing. Don't worry, I thought I had bricked the LockPick a few times but if you get the error just start the reflashing over with the update program. It tells you when you need to turn the Jeep off.
6. Even though the USB Updates section of their website says we need to keep DIP switch #4 down I found that the LockPick didn't respond until I flipped it back to the UP position. I checked the Info section in the LockPick menus and sure enough it is at v1.5 now.

I don't know what all was updated and I can't report any issues with v1.2 which I was on previously so if you aren't having any issues it may not be worth the effort to update the software.

I will confirm with Coastal about my flashing issues via e-mail and see what they say.

In other BIG news CoastalETech is soon to release (3-6 weeks) a wi-fi capable CHR558 LockPick Air which will allow screen mirroring on the 8" screen from almost all smartphones. This is something I have been asking for awhile now which allows me to put Google Maps or Waze directly on the 8" screen. Take a look at their updated MyGiG Lockpick Air website here to get an idea of what new features this next gen LockPick will have for our 2014+ Jeeps and RAMs with the 8.4" UConnect setup.
