Re: Looking for new door speakers all the way around. what do you think?

If I were you I would install that deck your girls getting you, buy a 2 channel amp and a decent set of 6.5 components for the front. Delete your dash speakers and your rear speakers, they are really not needed EXCEPT if you have people back there all the time and they like loud music cranked. My reasoning, I deleted the dash speakers and have 6.5 components in the front and 6.5 components in the rear. The stereo imaging from the front 6.5's is awesome and the vocals sound right up in front with my set-up. I do have rears but when I fade them out there is no difference at all from the front seats in "loudness" or anything for that matter.

Here is how I mounted my 6.5 components in the front door 6x9 opening. I used a 1/2" piece of MDF and made a bracket to mount the mid and tweet side by side.

Those are JL Audio XR's I bought for like $230 from soniceelectronics.com online. But i have the JL TR's in the rear that sound great too for I wanna say $100. Then a decent amp for your fronts plus an amp wiring kit can be bought cheap. Thats just my 2 cents.

And I would DEF look to buy gear online, I saved so much money buying online from sonicelectronics.com and on ebay.

well first. i wanna see if my door speakers are actually blown or what is wrong with them. 1 of the 4 are currently working (laft rear). when i got it all speakers were fine then i screwed around alot trying to find which wire i had to splice into for my remote. so many of the wires connecting to the amp has been spliced into. could that be the problem?? i dont think they are blown because i dont here any crackling or noises and i never did..considering i dont have alot of money i would like to just figure out whats wrong with them and save myself 250$ cuz im a broke college student.

Re: Looking for new door speakers all the way around. what do you think?

If you have a voltmeter you can hook the ends up to the speaker terminals, if it shows zero ohms then its blown, if the ohms keep going up and up then the speaker is good.

I had to change this. A zero reading means there is a short somewhere, an infinite reading means the coils are "probably" melted, a positive reading for what the speakers are rated for in ohms is what you want. Says its a 4 ohm speaker, you should be showing 4 ohms or close on the meter.

Here's a good read on using a voltmeter for speakers.

Re: Looking for new door speakers all the way around. what do you think?

Like I said, if you dont already have one or can borrow one a voltmeter is a good investment. Doesnt have to be fancy and expensive. With that you can unhook your speakers and plug the meter into the speaker wires coming off your amp going to the speakers in each door, with the radio turned up there should be voltage showing through the wires, it will be constantly changing due to sound levels. If it reads zero current then that means the amp is not giving out power to those specific wires you are testing.

There is also another method of checking speakers that I really do not recommend, but can be usefull for larger speakers like door speakers, but NEVER on small tweeters. Take a 9 volt battery and hook them up to the speakers, just touching the wires to the battery real quick. If the speaker is dead it wont do anything, if its still alive it will move and give a tiny pop.

Re: Looking for new door speakers all the way around. what do you think?

You could also just go to the junk yard and pocket the speakers from another car. I do not recommend that nor condone that type of behavior. Lol.
