Making a custom in dash iPad dock

So I've started on a project integrating my iPad in to my dash right under the mygig.
This is my first time making a mod like this so....

First I ordered a 90 degree pass through for the iPad

Then I made an iPad pan with an old t-shirt, fiberglass and resin. With the pass through attached.

When it dried, I cut the excess off and took out the iPad and pass through

Now I have to attach it to the bezel. I'm trying to make it so I don't have to cut or damage the bezel or dash. Here's what I've done...

I removed the components from the bezel and placed a wooden board where the heater controls are. The idea is that I can attach the iPad pan and face plate then mold fiberglass to fit to the shape of the bezel.

But if anyone has any ideas or comments, please. I am all ears.

Re: Making a custom in dash iPad dock

I would love to see how this come out. I've seen youtube videos of other people fitting their Ipad/tablets in their cars.

So is this going to replace the mygig or are you going to add to it? I would just replace it all together IMO

I am going to add to it. I already have a Chr-550 lockpick which works beautifully. And it gives me steering wheel controls. On top of that it gives you xtra aux input and out put for an xtra monitor like a rear ves. And 3 xtra camera inputs for front back left and right so if your turn signal is on that camera will show on the mygig! Pretty cool!!

Re: Making a custom in dash iPad dock

Interesting. Can't wait to see the outcome. But placing the climate buttons up top is going to be a PITA though. Godspeed!

I think the question would be if it would function as intended. There is an info red temp sensor in that unit. I'm going to try to aim it toward the middle of the cabin ( between driver and passenger ). Here is one done on a mustang I believe...

But if anyone has any other suggestions please share.

Re: Making a custom in dash iPad dock

I guess its all depending on were the sensor is aimed. The sensor could be aimed upwards making it ever harder to tell if someone is in the passager seat. But I still can't wait to see the outcome of it.

Re: Making a custom in dash iPad dock

I'm trying to figure out a way to make the pan tilt and pan. What came to mind was an electric mirror motor with the switch in the center console somewhere. I just don't know if it would be strong enough to move the weight of the ipad and pan.
Any Ideas?

Re: Making a custom in dash iPad dock

There are plenty of videos of how others have installed iPads in their trucks. Check out sound man on YouTube.
