lol, get your ass to work! It is hard to initiate, but once you get going it's not that bad, you find your groove.

No, I prefer to do it all by hand (time alignment, level matching, crossover point/slope, phase, PEQ). The AuduessyEQ is supposed to be nice, but I'll trust my ears over a microphone.

No, it's all built in to the 9887. It's a full 3-way active processor with all of the DSP features I listed above (that includes a 5-band parametric equalizer).

Yeah, the big 3 decks that are capable of 3-way active in that price range are the Alpine 9887, Pioneer 880/800, and the Eclipse 7200 mkII.

I previously had the 880. Great deck, very nice feature set, but I needed something with a low "high range" crossover point. So the 800 was out - which sucks cause that deck would look great in the WK dash. Oh well. The Eclipse is a great deck as well, but I'm not big on the aesthetics and menu navigation is sub par.

When it comes down to it they each have their pros/cons. Just gotta roll with whatever suits ya best. For me that will hopefully be the 9887, lol.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log

Matt... I like your system #3. I am building a system very close to it. A few questions for you.
Did you use your stock speaker wire for the 3.5" dash speakers and 6x9 door speakers? If so, at what point did you splice into them?
How is the imaging with the front 6x9s running 80Hz up and 3.5s running 200Hz and up?
Thanks

I used the wiring I had run down the floor of the Jeep from system #1 - the wiring with the terminal blocks on the end.

For the dash speakers, I ran my own wiring from the terminal blocks on up to the speaker - it's super easy.

For the door speakers, I spliced into the factory wiring about 12" from where it entered the harness to the door (right where the factory wiring started to bend from the floor to the kick panel area). Drilling out that door harness would have simply been unnecessary as using this skinny of wire at this short of length poses zero threat.

It was okay. Loud for sure, but I didn't like having the door speakers playing so much information that the dash speakers were playing - too much overlap for my liking.

I currently (build log #2 in my sig) have my door speakers playing 80hz-250hz and my dash speakers playing 315hz-all the way up (sub from 63hz-down). Sound so much better!

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log

whats your opinion and deleting the 3.5 and running components in the door say 80Hz and up... i think another member here did that and really really likes it and says his sound stage comes from the top dash.

I can't be sure, as I have never tried that, but, as you said, another member here (TimmyB) has had good feedback from using his components in that location. I can say that I did not enjoy the mid in the door and the tweeter in the dash location. Even with all the DSP I had, it still sound crappy.

I say try it out!
