That is some sick fawking setup!!! It pays to take the time to do custome work. I'm sure it sounds sweet...

haha, I'm going to have some down time in about 3 weeks - with that time I'd like to get a how-to add a sub/amp to the factory stereo and an enclosure dimension/template PDF. In due time.

I'll definitely want some templates!

Did you do the Big 3 upgrade?

Give me a few weeks and I'll get full enclosure specs and templates for you guys.

Never did the Big 3 - planned to, but never got around to it... never really needed to either, but it can only help and I have extra 4 gauge laying around.

Man, I've been all over DIYMA reading this last few days, lol. Don't be surprised if I start up another active system in the next month or so, haha. I blame you for that Andy!!!

Hey, very nice sound setup and wiring jobs. I have to ask if you've ran into any cooling issues with the amp, being that it is enclosed in a nearly air-tight spot? I would think it gets very toasty in there which can lead to failure over short time. Just a thought and curiosity.

Thanks Brandon!

I haven't had any issues with heat (yet - crosses fingers). I live in the middle of Florida and have gone on 2-3 hour drives beating the hell out of my stereo and checked to see how hot she got and it wasn't that bad.

When I was doing my research on it (over on DIYMA) I found that many well respected members are on the side that car electronics are made to be installed in high temp situations and they are built to handle the riggers of the mobile environment. To do a proper/effective ventilation/cooling system is a lot more work than slapping some CPU fans in there and calling it a day. There was way more science behind it than I willing to study and just sort of scrapped the whole idea.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log

I really want to build a box like that so I can free up more space in my cargo area. This is my setup now:

Would you mind sending me the measurements of your box?

Dude, that would kick some ASS if you did that. Seriously!

For real man, that was a huge concern of mine (losing cargo space). I feel like I lost nothing with this and i like the fact that it looks like it belongs there.

I will definitely do a really nice Google Sketch-Up drawing with dimensions angles and whatnot. I'll see if I can tweak it to be able to accompany a 12" driver as well. The only concern with this enclosure is mounting depth. I believe I had 6 inches or so to work with. Give me a few weeks to get it going though.

Ohhh yeah... I was looking at it again and mounting depth became a concern. And I didn't realize that was a 10" lol. Hopefully I can make it work somehow!

And no rush... I wouldn't be starting this project until later in July anyway!

Extending the enclosure wouldn't be that difficult to do, just adding inches to four of the faces. The only thing that sucks about that is you lose the ability to access the cargo tray without removing the enclosure.

I'm also pretty confident that you could squeeze an enclosure under the pullover cover thingy that could house a 12" driver.

Ahh! I miss my old 12... paper cone FTW!
