Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log

Pac adapter, iPod AUX adapter

I installed the PAC iPac-CHY iPod interface adapter a month ago, but didn't like the fact that the iPod is always being charged and that the screen would stay lit even when the vehicle was shut off. This will greatly reduce the life of the Ipod and that just ain't cool with me. So, at the cost of losing steering wheel controls (and the charging feature). I decided to utilize the addition input that the CHY has and that is a basic left and right channel stereo input.

Supplies:

  • PAC iPac-CHY
  • KnuKonceptz Krystal Stereo Y-adapter Cable
  • Heat shrink
  • Techflex (expandable sleeving)
Having already installed the CHY, all I had to do was pull the CHY's stereo input, Techflex the Knu cable, connect the Knu cable, drill/dremel a whole in the AC interface panel, and slightly dremel (bore out) the hole in the iPods case for the Knu plug.

Pictures

Simple enough!

School is kinda kickin' my ass right now, so I haven't had any down time to tend to the jeep. which sucks because I just hit 34K miles and need an oil change, plugs, brake pads, and fluid flushes badly but have no time or money.

And instead of installing what I already bought, I decided to sell the SLS 8's for some Seas 7" and the FR88's are going to be traded out for the H-audio Trinity's ( same driver but 4 ohm and different cone material).

actually I have to get around to selling those drivers. Anyone need Peerless SLS8's Fountek FR88's or Seas 27 TAFNC tweets?

Ah, I gotcha. Yeah I know the feeling, school sucks. and so does vehicle maintenance, lol.

Why did you sell the SLS's? I'm guessing mounting reasons...?

And those Trinity's look bad ass!! The FR plot is damn near perfect! Interested to see how those turn out.

Good luck once you get going on the install... just go slow and do a little whenever you get some time. That's what I did when I was in school.

Oh, as you know, those drivers will sell quickly over on DIYMA.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log

SLS mounting depth was approx 4" and the depth from the door metal to the window when rolled down was 3" so I bought a 1" thick piece of HDPE to make baffles and I just didn't see it fitting with the door card on. So the Seas are 3" depth so I can get away with a much thinner baffle.

I haven't sold the drivers yet, and I really want to test them, but I need the money to buy the Trinity's. I keep getting cold feet about all of my gear and looking to upgrade when I haven't demo'd a single product. Right now I'm worried that my 9887 will be my weak link, but i should really worry about installing it first.

Yeah, definitely get things installed before you second guess the equipment -- the equipment you have (or en route) is good stuff. Honestly, the 9887 will have all the processing to keep you happy for a long time. I second guessed myself too when I purchased the 880PRS, but man I was so happy with all the tuning options it had; more than enough to keep me busy and I still never completely got everything down.

I think you're going to love having that big wide band up top instead of a traditional tweeter - there is so much overlap as far as FR range between the mid and full-range, so many possibilities and trial and error to play with. That alone will keep you busy, lol.
