^^^I agree...I have done those same mods (except AIRAID) along with SRT8 rear sway and rear bilsteins and mesh grill and they are all can-do!!! the most time consuming was the stereo...but that was because it was my first full install and I was careful with my baby. Matt - the stuff you do is amazing and I want to thank you for giving me the gumption to do my stereo...and now it looks like this may be my next mod!! Thanks for the write-up

No problem Brad. When I'm finished I'll do as detailed of a write-up as I can. Full materials list, step-by-step instructions, the works. For now I'm just doing pics and light descriptions.

Like a glove...

Sharpied my trim line

Not sure how much I am going to get done today. I have to go do some quick Christmas shopping and then have to leave tonight or my sisters graduation tomorrow

I'm hoping I can at least get it trimmed and hopefully do the preliminaries for the bracing.

It's one of the two bolts that will anchor the enclosure (there should be pics of it somewhere in this thread). I just wanted to make sure that the holes still lined up (nothing shifted).

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

Another project... just what I needed, lol.

I traded my Tang Band W3's for these Fountek FR88's. Higher xmax and higher efficiency should mean louder than the TB's. I'll give these a shot after I complete the enclosure.

Yeah, if these aren't quite what I'm looking for I think I'm going to try a line array.

A pair of these in each pillar...

Aurasound NSW2 (2" full range drivers)

I may do it anyways, just for fun.

No.

I'm anti-tweeter, lol.

To be honest, a tweeter doesn't play a lot of information. Most humans can't even here above 16khz. So I'd rather be able to use a larger driver (like the Founteks ~3") that play up to 20khz (just like a tweeter), but also can play as low as 315hz. Most tweeters have trouble playing below 2khz and most really are suitable for 4khz-20khz. While that seems like a large span of the frequency spectrum, it's not when listening to music. Most of the musical information is from 30hz-10khz. Also, the smaller your pass band is, the more power you can send to a speaker.

So, by have a driver that can play as low as 315hz, I can drop the crossover point on my mid bass drivers from 2khz (with a tweeter) to 315hz (with a wide band driver). This makes the mid woofer pass band MUCH smaller and therefore increasing power handling... = louder impact from the mid woofer = good!

Going tweeterless is really catching on in the DIY mobiel audio world. I'd like to say I started the trend (over a year ago), but I'm sure that wouldn't accurate. In just the past few months, it's been one of the "hot topics" over in www.DIYmobileaudio.com.

Also, our WK's don't come with tweeters. They are 3.5" wide band drivers.
