Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

Thanks Chris!

Slowly getting there. Got another layer of Knytex down + a little chopped mat in certain areas. I'm running LOW on resin, so hopefully just a little here and there tomorrow and that will be it for the resin.

US Composites is only a day or two shipping away, so I can always get more if I feel I need it, but I'd just rather get this thing done before Christmas.

Thanks Ryan!

Most of you other guys have your performance mods, your detailing, your off road mods, etc, I have my stereo, LOL. This is my hobby, so I do enjoy being detailed and thorough.

Looks great Matt. Your box looks quit a bit bigger then mine. Good call on swapping out the fleece it takes a bunch of resin.

Yeah, I was a little liberal on the depth, plus I'm going to line the enclosure with open cell foam, so I wanted to be sure I still had some room for the pole vent to breath.

I'm glad I swapped out the fleece, that may have put me out of resin, lol. I've probably only got about 10oz left.

It really is Joe!

It doesn't take any skill, just patience and of course some self learning. It doesn't require a lot of man hours either, it takes so long because you have let stuff cure and dry. I'd say only 10-15 working hours - and that's taking your time and double checking everything.

I'm going to do a full write-up once I am done.

I'd prefer to do gray vinyl, but that, along with paint would require some serious attention to the exterior. LOTS and LOTS of sanding, Bondo, sanding, etc, etc... just not worth it to me. I'd venture to say paint/vinyl would cost another 50 bucks in supplies.

Carpet hides pretty much all imperfections. Most don't even pay any attention to sanding the exterior (I will).

I have two shades of carpet here (both grays from Parts Express), but neither are a perfect match I'll go with whatever one looks the closest.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

I painted mine with a textured paint and then tried to match it with the dark color of the interior. Ill try and get a picture up tomorrow. Less than $15 for the paint. Only thing was it took quite a bit of time sanding to get a good surface for paint.
