Nothing really, I think I'm going to get some HDPE today and make permanent baffles for the dash speakers.

I'm also pretty sure I'm going to try some different mids... I just can't get these to sound as good as I'd like.

I really just need to get some tuning done. I haven't even touched the PEQ yet, that can make things sound a WHOLE lot better. I think because I'm satisfied with the way it sounds now, I'm just to lazy to actually put some time into it, lol.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

So Matty, just how hard do those Peerless mids hit? Could you get away without a sub?

I'm doing an audio overhaul next month and I'm very anal about maintaining all my cargo space (I use it a lot with seats down). I mostly listen to rock/metal type music and prefer tight, responsive bass.

My two concerns about going with a 10" would be the space it takes up and added cost. If the Peerless comes close to a 10", that may be the best option for me.

I'd still prefer a sub with the 6.5's. I've seen others who have used the 6.5's without a sub, but I don't think that would be enough for me. Now, I've read with the 8's you can go subless, but fitting the 8's in there would not be fun.

Another thing to remember - the larger the bandpass (frequency range a driver is set to reproduce) the lower the power handling is. For example, I currently run my SLS's from 100hz-315hz. But if I used them to reproduce sub bass frequencies... 40-315hz, my power handling would go down (i.e. getting loud goes down).

Now, one thing you may want to consider trying is removing the rear door speakers and dropping in the SLS's strictly for sub bass duties; say 30-80hz. You could throw a lot of power at them. The door will need to be deadened to the nth degree though.

Lastly, you could get a sub woofer that doesn't need a large enclosure and stick it in the cargo area. Something like the Dayton HO10 would be perfect! .7 ft^3.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

I should also add that I wouldn't use the SLS's (either the 6.5's or 8's) above 315hz (250hz if you can manage). Their high inductance @ 1.5Le makes them struggle at trying to keep up with quick snaps or drum kicks. They get low and loud, but are sloppy enough to make me look into something else. I think I'm going to give the Mach 5 MLI-65's a go. Their high QTS should make them great candidates for an infinite baffle, door location. I planned on building sealed kicks for my SLS's but just lost the motivation.

That's my thinking, using a high mid driver in the front and dropping the SLS's in the rear just for lows. If I could get them down to reproduce 30Hz I'd be pretty happy. Do you know offhand their frequency range (sorry if you already posted that somewhere before)?

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

Here's the product page.

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=8234

You can get an F3 (-3db point) of 44hz if it's in a vented enclosure... but IB (or large sealed) in a door... it's hard to say, but I bet it starts rolling off somewhere around 60-70hz. It's a low QTS driver so it will be a very gradual roll-off. I can model it up when I get home from work and tell ya exactly. It'd probably be decent in the rear doors, nothing special though.
