Thanks for the info. I guess I should make my own stereo work in progress thread.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

Alright, little update.

I just ordered some new mids to try out! Zaph gave them a pretty respectable review and they were buyout at Parts Express, so I figured what the hell.

(Just FYI, Zaph is an independent person who uses objective and thorough testing methods for raw drivers - he's the most respectable reviewer out there.)

I'm generally impressed. What I'd recommend for these is floor standing systems with 1 cu ft of sealed volume per woofer, be it a TM or MTM. I do not recommend TMM 2.5way systems with this woofer as full baffle step compensation would sound a little on the boomy side. The small amount of Qtc bass peaking will not be noticable in a system with less baffle step compensation. Xmax is actually higher than the rated 3.5 mm. There is a sticker on the back of the magnet. There is a vented pole piece, so remove the sticker to make use of the venting. The pole piece hole combines with former venting for absolutely silent operation at full Xmax. These are 4 ohn woofers, so MTM's would need to be series hookup. The frames are actual measured 6.5", meaning these will no doubt find some good homes in car doors.

The mids I have now, Peerless SLS 6.5, are great mids, but they really need to be in an enclosure to sound great, I just don't feel like building kicks right now. So I'm going to stick with the large, sealed door enclosure - that means a new woofer with proper t/s parameters.

So, I'll give these a shot.

I'm also planning on a new false floor and sub enclosure, lol. I know, I know.

I've got a couple ideas - I'm going to draft up a sketch when I get home from work. I'll post it up here. No fiberglass though.

No complaints with the current enclosure, it's perfect. I'm just looking for a new project, lol, and wood is cheaper! I want a new floor too.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

I got some goodies ready to test out.

I received the 6.5" speakers shown above (post 291).

I also received a set of the factory Boston Acoustic speakers (thanks Carlos!)

I'm going to do some testing with the BA speakers... see what the limitations are, and see how much some DSP and amplification can wake them up. I'll probably swap them in tonight and get some preliminary tuning done.

I'll then swap the factory BA's for the mids shown above and Fostex FR-88's and see how they compare.

Anyways, just a heads up.

Me too! I think I'm going to be pleasantly surprised with the results of the factory BA system (minus the rear speakers). It's amazing what a little power and sound processing can do

Alpine 9887 DSP receiver

3-way active processing;

High: 20hz-20khz adjustable high pass filter
Mid: 20hz-20khz adjustable low-pass filter, 20hz-20khz adjustable high pass filter
Low: I have no idea what the crossover range is on this but, it goes plenty high for a sub woofer (maybe 500hz).

Flat, 6db, 12db, 18db, 24db - slope options

Level matching

5-band parametric EQ (<-- so sick!)

Depending on the frequency responses from the drivers, I'm expecting the BA dash speaker to handle 315hz - all the way to 20khz (with a gradual treble roll off, naturally). The BA 6x9 woofers to handle 80hz-250hz. And my D6 12" to handle 60hz - all the way down. Probably all at 12db/oct slopes.
