Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

Just installed my RS180's (7" woofers in the doors )

They are sooo much more suited for a door install compared to the SLS's. They have a much lower inductance @ .51mH (SLS's were 1.5mH), and a much higher QTS .5 (SLS's were to .23). That = a better infinite baffle woofer.

The SLS's really need to be in a sealed kick pod or an AP membrane. I'm going to hang on to them... one of these days I'll find the time to fab some up.

Got some initial tuning done with the RS180s. Crossover, phase, level, no EQ.

Right now I have them band passed at: 80hz - 800hz, 24db/oct slopes. when I get the Founteks in I'll drop the low-pass point. The factory 3.5's can't get that low.

The Dayton's are such a musical, snappy, in-control mid woofer. Fawkin kick ass! I can feel the drum kicks pound my chest (w/o the sub woofer on).

Some shitty cell phone pics.

Up next:

Get the Fountek FR88's in the dash.

I've got a DIYMA R12 on the way, so start getting an enclosure ready.

Re: Matt's 2006 WK Stereo Build Log Part II

Got the DIYMA Reference 12 in for a mini audition... WOW, what an incredible woofer! The legends are true! LOL

Such a beautiful sounding driver. I wish I had a little more power on tap - it was only seeing maybe 200-250 watts and they aren't terribly efficient drivers. I'm thinking about getting a second R12, so I can wire them down to a 2ohm load and take full advantage of my amplifiers power.

Dual inverted mounted R12's would look pimp as hell too!

Snapped a few cell pics;

Testing was done in a 1 cubic foot, sealed enclosure (though I found a leak in it tonight, lol). I think I'm going to shoot for about .75-.8 ft^3 each, if/when I get a second one. Hopefully sooner rather than later, but they aren't being produced anymore, so I'll have to scoop another one up on the black market, lol.

Thanks!

I would love to have a touchscreen, but I need the DSP processing (not a single double din on the market offers this built-in).

The only combination is the Alpine H701 processor and one of their W-series double dins. The double dins are pretty bare and the add-ons (like navigation) are expensive.

Another route would be to get an external processor like the Audison BitONE or Audiocontrol units, but they don't offer on-screen GUI's.

Lastly, I could get amplifiers that have built-in DSP, like the Zapco DC-series (tune everything from a laptop), but those are $$$$$$ and to change a tune on the fly wouldn't be possible.

So, I am forced to stick with my single din, lol.

Long time no talk Andy. No, I haven't done anything more. I just got condo, so moving and furnishing has been my life for the past month. I've got a sick home entertainment set up though, LOL.
