Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Nate idk if you remember my stereo but you heard it last summer... thats a 12in type R thats 6 years old now pushing only 275watts into a sealed box... and it POUNDS.

The difference... is 30 bucks in materials and a home made, 1cu ft box.

3/4in MDF ... pilot holes, a screw every 1.5 inches, and all seams sealed with silicone (let it set for 48 hours before putting a woofer in the box... the fumes can eat the rubber on your sub)

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Using stock MyGig unit. I have to see about makin a custome enclosure so everything will fit under the security cover. I'm just going to use this box for now. Maybe Matt will give me one of his custome enclosures cause I'm such a nice guy. LOL

I remember. I love where you put your amp. Too bad that's not an option in the WK. LOL

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Dude it is ALL About the components you use in building a stereo. Good components sound GREAT, anything else is mediocre at best. You will never find a best buy caliber stereo (read anything by the brand "dual") sounding good....

the amp was a scary party of the install... watching the sparks fly at my carpeting was frightening

it was worth it in the end

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Yeah I went with a Kicker sub and amp. I plan on upgrading the Boston system to Kicker someday too. Matt suggested that amp kit cause he's used them before and he sayd they stand up. Other brands use a thick insulation to give the appearance that it is the listed ga wire but it's less. I know Matt is HIGHLY knowledgeable with audio systems to the point I really don't know what the f*ck he's talking about sometimes. LOL I plan to put my amp under the tray in the rear cargo area. Make it harder for thieves and bolt my sub to the back of the second row seat with some kind of quick connect to remove it if needed. I remember your system sounding pretty damn good Craig. I'm not worried about it being loud. I just want a decent solid sounding knock ya know.

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

You dont need a Bassworx box. You might as well burn your money Nate. For 40 dollars in material you can build your own that would be way better or just buy a premade box like you picked out and jut redo the joints in silicone and then you can either egg crate it or polyfil it which ever you want

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Yeah Matt said the padding on the inside kinda tricks the speaker/sound waves into thinking it's in a bigger box. I was looking into that but where do I buy those materials?

you can find polyfil at speaker stores and eggcrate foam at either a hardware store or a fabric shop type place
