Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Polyfil is mostly used in smaller enclosure to "fool" the sub that it is in a larger enclosure. And yes in some situations it does work very well but I am sure Matt can elaborate more on this for everyone.

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

polyfill ftw.

btw nate if your just looking for a good bump and not to be heard 10 blocks away your going to love the setup that matt had you pickout. I've got a friend who has that amp with an older kicker sub and it sounds great. Hes got it in a durango so similar interior to our jeeps.

That will depend. In the end, you should make adjustments as you see fit. A stereo, and the way it sounds is subjective, although you will find may purists will argue against this.... I say, make it sound best to you, and not someone else standards.

A sub woofer (or any speaker for that matter) has two waves; a front wave, and a rear wave (this is why you can reverse mount a sub woofer and have it sound 'normal'). As the others said, polyester fiberfill (polyfill) absorbs the rear wave (which is heat - so it absorbs heat), thus making the enclosure seem larger than it really is.

Whenever I build an enclosure, I usually try to get as 'in the middle' of acceptable airpsace as I can... then, if I can make the enclosure 'larger' by adding polyfill, or I can make the enclosure smaller, by adding blocks of wood (or any mass).

So, my recommendation is to install without any adjustments to the enclosure, get acquainted with the sound for a week or so, then decide if you want to make any adjustments.

Hope all went well last night running the wires. I didn't get a phone call, so I have two assumptions; 1) everything went smooth, 2) your lazy ass didn't even get to it. I'm going with the latter, LOL.

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

I ran the RCA/Remote up the pass side to the dash and the power up the drivers side and it's sitting under my front mat. LOL I forgot to run the bass knob wire up the drivers side so I'll do that tonight which is good cause I forgot to take pics. LOL I grounded it to a bolt I found near the rear D pillar but I'm not sure it that's good to use or not or If I should just do a fresh ground. I found a grommet under the dash on the drivers side I'll push the power supply wire thru. I have to go over the factory seal with more silicone to ensure a nice seal. I should have everything in with about another 1-2 hours of work just the enclosure will have to wait till I so another layer of silicone and give it a day or 2 to dry...

What do you suggest using? any type of vinyl silicone?

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

I did a fresh ground on mine...from what I remember Matt telling me, you want the shortest ground possible (12" MAX, I did 7.5" IIRC) b/c it makes the amp run more efficently. Also, for your fuse, that needs to be within 1-8" of your battery (I did right around 4"). Hope that helps...

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Ok I'll do that with the fuse. Just putting the terminals on the ends of the wires suck. I kept sticking myself.

Good shit Nate!

I highly doubt you're enclosure needs any silicone, but do if you think so.

Re: Nasty Nate's Stereo build...

Also would it be bad if I used the whole line they gave me for the ground? it's about 1.5' long or should I shorten it. I only want to use the longer piece so I can bolt it and still lift the cargo floor without having to disconnect it from the amp first....

Yeah, I seriously doubt it needs it. Also, I try to stay away from silicone. It's pretty toxic and could have some sort of affect on the rubber surround of the woofer. I always seal with wood glue. Plus, it's easier to use. Titebond for a few bucks should to the trick.

You should be fine. I mean, the shorter the better, but I understand the continence. I will say, it's not often you'll be lifting the floor out though.
