Re: Nav, backup camera etc

Here's another good source of info on the MyGIG system.

As for GPS, I don't drive on many trips but even with local trips I've come to use it more often than not. It's great to know 'how long' its going to take to get somewhere and detours are a snap. Plus the Points of Interest (POI) is a good feature.

Backup camera is OK. I used it but you really do need to check visually as well for total safety.

Kids love the VES. If you have young ones, this is a MUST. I drive in near total silence nowadays (OMG it's great) and for me, it's worth it's weight in gold.

MyGIG is awesome. I wanted the uConnect iTunes integration. Love it. No more silly FM transmitters or aux setups. The iPod integration is classy. I'm not sure I would like an iPhone hidden in the glove box but I'm not there yet. The HDD is awesome too for those CDs you don't want on your iPod, just import them to the HDD. With the Sat-Nav, you get 16GB usable HDD space for music. I like the playlist integration too. I can setup different playlists for different wants (like driving alone, driving w/wife).

Bluetooth is great. Works well. I like the fact I don't need my bluetooth charger in the car anymore.

I decided this time around I would get everything I wanted (coming from a 2007 WK Limited HEMI w/o an upgraded stereo system) even if it broke the bank. Fortunately, it hasn't so far

Re: Nav, backup camera etc

I didn't want to read through all of the posts to see if this was brought up, so I apologize ahead of time.

Are you planning on purchasing a new Jeep andare considering this? Either way, I have never purchased a vehicle with Navigation in it. In my experience the only worthwhile factory navigation is the new new Navigation in the Cadillac CTS-V, otherwise, they are no bueno. For less than half of the cost that Chrysler, Gm, Toyota, whoever will charge you, you can get an aftermarket setup that is better pound for pound. In '06 I bought an '06 Cadillac DTS brand new and opted out on the navigation/back-up camera. I went to my stereo shop, dropped $1,100 for a Pioneer Navigation setup - HDD Nav (no switching discs for different parts of the country or Canada), CD, DVD, iPod/MP3, Bluetooth, Sirius, XM, HD Radio, USB, SD Card, Voice Commands, business/company information including phone number, MSN Direct: live traffic updates, weather, movie times, gas prices, etc. and a back-up camera that is clearer and portrays better lighting than any factory camera I've seen.

My $.02 - take the money you would use for a Chrysler system and go to your local stereo shop, you'll end up saving boo-koo bucks! Woo!

Re: Nav, backup camera etc

I am not getting a new jeep. I just got this jeep a few months ago and settled for it not having any of these fancy options to save of the price of the jeep. (used) Now i am wondering if all these fancy computer gizmos are really worth the price to add them in after the fact and how hard and expensive ti will be to do.

I know about the aftermarket setups but for the moment i am just looking to keep it all stock. i am not even planning on doing this any time soon as i am out of a job and trying to save to get a place to live with my finace. This is just a curiosity thread.

Re: Nav, backup camera etc

i see this thread ended 5 months ago, but i am new here lol. the REC is fully plug and play. i just replaced my stock base radio with an rec and it only took about 10 minutes to remove the old one and put in the new one. the camera can not be added unless your jeep came with one. the dealer would have to activate it and i heard they do not like to do this. the lockpick will allow you to add up to 3 cameras so it is easy to do. i love the look of it!

Re: Nav, backup camera etc

Well, i have since bought a Nav bezel, and am making it custom to fit my stock 6 disc cd head unit. See other thread.

I have also received a very nice garmin for X mas so i am thinking about getting the license plate mounted reverse camera some time in the future.

I dont think i would use my gig.

What about the backup camera? i know i would use that, alot. Especially me g/f.

What would it cost to add a functioning nave setup and reverse camera? I know it would be well over $1000 i bet.

How hard would it be to do?

Not really planning on ever doing any of this, i just see you guys that have it and wonder if i ever came across deals on the stuff if its worth it.
I think your idea is wrong, is like no war, but we still have to prepare our weapons. You can say that our army is useless it? I think you will recognize my point of view.
In fact, a car backup camera equipment is very simple, cost no more than, perhaps, when you buy, do not look on the good sellers, when you see our prices, you may immediately change your thought before the bar.
