Re: Power acoustik stereo equipment?

IMO for $6-700 you can get some better quality stuff...if you buy that sub/amp combo along with a $50 wiring kit and a $30 box you will be under $400...so if money is an issue than I think that is a great deal (although I do not have any experience with the PA subs)...I had a PA 4-ch amp for 3 years and it def got the job done.

So whats the goal? $$ saving or max quality for the least cost?

Re: Power acoustik stereo equipment?

I mean, it's WalMart brand stuff, so I wouldn't expect it to sound good or last long (or do any of the rated numbers).

Thing is, once you buy a piece of stereo equipment, that should last you a very long time - just like when you buy any electronics (TV, home stereo, etc). So, IMO, it's worth it to spend extra cash (even if it means saving a little more) and getting quality equipment.

If I was on a budget, I would check out the used market for equipment. There is always a ton if stuff for sale and you can get some killer deals!

Also, if you're on a budget, and trying to get loud and low, I would shoot for a single driver (to keep costs down) and a large driver. Probably a 15" woofer. They have almost the same amount of cone area as a pair of 12" woofers.

With 6-700 bucks, that should PLENTY to get some damn good equipment. Shit, my entire stereo probably costs 6-700 bucks, LOL.

Enclosure and installation are far more important than the equipment you buy, so don't fall short in this part of the process.

If you're going ported, then 1,000 watts will be more than enough to drive a 15" woofer. Generally, the larger the woofer, the higher the efficiency = less power required. Also, ported enclosures GREATLY reduce the power handling of a sub woofer, so keep that in mind.

If you're still a few months away from buying, i wouldn't be looking at equipment, I'd be learning about what makes one woofer better than the other. Hint: what looks good has absolutely no effect on sound. So, if you can, when looking at different sub woofers, cover the picture of it and look only at the specs.
