Premium Sound?

Is there an easy way to tell if my '05 WK has premium sound? I just purchased an early model REC unit just to find out that it won't work without the premium sound. Thanks for any help in advance....

Re: Premium Sound?

I'm pretty sure that I have the amp, but the door speakers do not say Boston Acoustic. Does anyone know if this newer REC unit will work if I in fact do have the amp, but not the BA speakers?

They come installed together. You should pull your panel in the back cargo area driver side and check to see if the amp is there. Check out www.wkjeeps.com There is a link on their that shows the location, for some reason I can't post/open the web site at this time.

Re: Premium Sound?

You mean the premium quality like I left in the toilet this morning? Haha... just joshing ya. To 100% confirm you have to pull the left rear cargo panel to tell for sure to spot the amplifier.

The 2005-06 did not have BA badges on the door panels though you may actually have them.

Re: Premium Sound?

Thank you so much for that link.. I just picked up this jeep a few weeks ago at a steal of a price and now I know EVERYTHING it has. It certainly is not a base model and does indeed have the boston acoustics "premium sound". I guess I will have no problems installing the REC unit I have.

Thanks again to everyone who chimed in. It was greatly appreciated.

Re: Premium Sound?

I have seen the instructions on wkjeeps.com, but I am having trouble getting the bezel off. The site says to grab it by the back and pull straight out, but I can't get a hold of it anywhere. I also tried using a screw driver to pry it up, but all that did was scratch and dent the part of the dash I am not replacing... Any tips would be appreciated!

Re: Premium Sound?

grab it from under the radio and under the vents and pull out. it is easier that way. the rec bezel is easy to remove from the top, but not the stock bezel.

Re: Premium Sound?

Yes! Thanks a lot. That did the trick... One last question, and I'm going to feel like an idiot, but can someone tell me how to disconnect the battery so that I can safely swap the two radios? I am just starting to get the courage to try these things on my own, so I'm a pretty big noob.
