Question about my current set up

I've got a question about the way I have my amp/subs connected.

I have two RF P212S8 12" subs (8 ohm) and a Sony XM-2200GTX amp.

Amp:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XM22...TX.html?tp=115

Subs:
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...1&locale=en_US

They way I have it connected currently... I am running wire from the positive terminal on the sub to the positive terminal on amp and the ground terminal on the sub to the ground terminal on the amp, for both channels.

Does this mean that my amp is currently running at 8 ohms?

The subs are rated at 200W RMS/400W max, and the amp puts out 200W RMS at 4 ohms. However, if it is running at 8 ohms I'd guess it is only putting out like 125-150W RMS.

How can I wire them up so that I'm running the subs at 4 ohms, and would I be in danger of blowing them?

Hahaha that is the exact pic I used.

Thanks Matt. You think this will sound better than how I had it before?

Yeah, if you're doubling power, no doubt. Should be able to keep the gain lower, reducing the noise floor from the amp.

Just be sure to re-adjust your amp gain.

  1. With stereo off, turn amp gain all the way to zero
  2. Turn stereo on, crank volume to 90%-95%, or as loud as you would ever listen to it.
  3. Put on a rap track with a lot of bass
  4. Slowly turn gain up until you here the subs distort or start to stress
  5. Back the gain slightly from this point
  6. done. Never turn volume up past the point you used to set the gain.

Good thinking... that is what I did to set my gain at what it is at now. I would have completely forgotten to redo it.

Re: Question about my current set up

Just got it all reinstalled... sounds way better. I was able to turn the gain down a bit and it still sounds much better.
