Radio codes?

Hi,

just joined the site as I picked up an 02 WJ grand cherokee last week (4.7)... the car's great, but, hre in the U.K. we have very strict laws about using mobiles in cars. I want to install a sonyericsson bluetooth handsfree, which taps into the front speakers and mutes the radio, but I am concerned... is the factory fitted radio coded, and, if I disconnect it to unstall the ISO adapter, am I goiung to end up with a useless radio as I haven't had any codes from the previous owner? When ignition is off, the radio has a red flashing light, which, with many UK cars, indicates a coded radio.. if it is coded, is there any way of displaying the code before I remove it?

Cheers

Sam

Re: Radio codes?

if its a factory radio, you can unplug the radio and plug it back when ready. no security codes or stuff like that. you may lose your presets but that should be all.

but over 7 years someone may have switched it out. does it have any markings and names on it, maybe we can help identify it.

or check wjjeeps.com may have pictures of all the factory radios so you can compare

Thanks for that... it is a factory install... already checked wjjeeps and the handbook... it was just that red flashing light!

Cheers

Re: Radio codes?

Hmm, I run the battery down on mine a few times with two different OEM head units.

Both HUs required me to type in the security number when the battery was recharged. You could call the dealer and they'd give you the code from the VIN number though.

BTW: Welcome to JG!
