long range requires either long wavelength or high spl. My favorite music capable spl skull cracker is the IA DP 12. small space high output at low freqs is difficult, its a direct violation of hoffmans iron law

Re: Speaker Porn??

While im here, Xmax is not relative to output, nor is displacement. Sensitivity dictates output. Start with a drivers 1w/1m spl and add 3dB everytime the power is doubled and add cabin gain and theres an educated guess on total system output. A high efficiency driver on low power has the same output as a low efficiency driver on alot of power. My 4Runner has 22dB of Gain @ 32Hz windows open. A Jeep Grand Cherokee late 90's model has 18dB @ 38Hz and thats about the expected range.

1-2-4-8-16-32-64-128-256-512-1024 or around 30dB gain from power @ 1000watts.

Subs usually have 3-6dB of power compression so expect 27dB gain @ 100watts since linearity is more of a myth than reality in the audio field.

Sub with a sens of 84dB (ave for a 12" true subwoofer) would produce 111dB @ 1000rms and add gain of 20dB would be around 131dB @ the headrest @ cabin resonance if in a flat response enclosure.

bcae1.com is the car audio newb's dream site. Perry Babin is a genious of the electronics field, just as Joseph D'apolito was to the audio field.

More BL is not always a good thing, higher Bl creates higher power compression and Le needs to be as low as possible to hinder its influence on the freq response. High Le figures (above 3mH) will start to add noticeable a spike around 50-60Hz and with 5-7mH of Le, expect to need more than 6dB of pull to flatten the system response to a musical level so have a good eq handy if you dont enjoy the listening fatigue associated with unnatural response lol.

The adire Brahma was a magnificent sql sub, as for the current adire stuff (exodus audio) the shiva X and Maelstrom lines are very nice as well but require overly large boxes thanks to their huge Vas and mid Q parameters.

Also, if you do get any IA stuff, call Nick and get it direct, no need to pay ssa markup. Tell Him Phil in VA sent ya. If THE CROWN ROYAL IS FLOWING he may be a lil scatter brained and he talks like an auctioneer so listen carefully or you'll only catch every other word lol.
