It depends on what's going on with the car. A cap stores power for those hard low bass notes that require it in a split second, so it will help to give you a harder hit.
If you put a huge stereo in your car and it's draining your battery and diming your lights, then yes a cap is a band-air, but you should do the big 3 first. If that doesn't work then you need an after market alternator and/or an after market battery. Standard car batteries are not meant to handle that constant drain and recharge on them. Hence, if you sat in your car and started it, shut it off, started it, shut it, etc. about a 100 times it would drain your battery as it wouldn't have time to recharge. That's the same thing that happens when your hitting those hard bass notes.
I simply suggested a cap because I had the same setup in my old car with no cap, and when some low bass notes hit on certain songs the amp would cut out because it couldn't pull that extra little bit of power. I never had a problem with dimming lights.
You can look online and ask around, your going to hear two sides of the story. You just need to read ALL of the information and make a decision for yourself.
