It depends on what's going on with the car. A cap stores power for those hard low bass notes that require it in a split second, so it will help to give you a harder hit.

If you put a huge stereo in your car and it's draining your battery and diming your lights, then yes a cap is a band-air, but you should do the big 3 first. If that doesn't work then you need an after market alternator and/or an after market battery. Standard car batteries are not meant to handle that constant drain and recharge on them. Hence, if you sat in your car and started it, shut it off, started it, shut it, etc. about a 100 times it would drain your battery as it wouldn't have time to recharge. That's the same thing that happens when your hitting those hard bass notes.

I simply suggested a cap because I had the same setup in my old car with no cap, and when some low bass notes hit on certain songs the amp would cut out because it couldn't pull that extra little bit of power. I never had a problem with dimming lights.

You can look online and ask around, your going to hear two sides of the story. You just need to read ALL of the information and make a decision for yourself.

Re: Stereo gurus assemble!!

I'm not sure what all the problem is about the amp wattage? you wanted the hifonics/kicker combo. Only look at the RMS ratings!! max wattage means nothing. the subs need 750 watts rms each right? the amp puts out 1700 watts which is 850 watts each sub (give or take a little) so where is the wattage problem? Not to mention that doubling your amplifier power will equate to only a 3 db increase which is just moderately noticeable, it's just not worth it unless you are in competitions. if that package is in your price range and you like it. go for it. If you are realy worried about it then step up to the Hifonics brz2100.1d. its $325 or make a offer so you could probably get it for less than $300.
and please stay away from that power acoustic amp!!!! that thing couldn’t hit 5500 watts if two bolts of lightning hit it at the same time.
