Stereo Questions

Here is some background on my setup: 2007 Limited with REC head unit and BA speakers. I think the left driver speaker is blown cause it rattles with some frequencies.

This isn't enough. I'm wondering is there a way that I could keep the BA speakers, and just get a Kicker L5 and an amp to power that to hook up to the stock head unit. I'm not into replacing my HU because it gets the job done for me.

The reason I would keep the speakers the same is because I figure if I get a sub woofer I would just make it so it handles all the bass because the BA speakers suck on the low end. Is there a way that I could do that? Just turn down the bass on the HU and up on the amp?

Also, if the BA speakers suck even with a sub, I could always put in the Kicker Mopar drop ins. I think that coupled with the sub would be very nice. I just don't feel like paying that much for something that doesn't necessarily need to be done.

Has anyone ever done something like this? Any suggestions? I was thinking just 1 12" kicker l5 in a vented enclosure because I'm sure that with a 1000watt amp would be plenty to shake the car and let the neighbors know whats good while having some better quality bass.

Thanks in advance, Frank.

i understand you may have searched. however, in my estimation, dont go get a job as 'chief searcher' or anything like that.

check the FIRST POST in this thread titled 'HOW TO ADD A SUB TO THE FACTORY STEREO'.

Thanks for that also, just asked a question on there.

Does anyone have any recommendations for brands of Amps? The kicker one is just way too expensive. It's weird how amps costs so much but the subs don't.

Re: Stereo Questions

I agree with a ported sub, that's going give you the sound of bass that your current BA speakers are missing. I have a Kicker ZX750.1 running two 12" subs in a sealed box (which requires more power than a ported) and it sounds really good. If your doing a 12" in a ported box you could get away with the ZX400.1. If you don't want Kicker, I would suggest MTX, Rockford Fostgate, or JL.

After you put the amp and sub in, I would then suggest replacing the 3.5" speakers in the dash. You can get a good set for about $50-$60, and they'll make a world of difference. If you wanted to replace the front doors as well you could, but that will run you around $150 for a nice set. I would leave the back doors alone, as it's not worth the money.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
