Its why I asked. If you've got a Dremel or a grinder, get the cleanest sand down you can get. Dont forget to make the ground as short as possible.

Re: Sub Installation Troubleshooting

I am using the stock headunit I don't have the RCA cable inputs, and don't believe the adapter would work with my pre-existing ipod input. So instead I used the speaker level input; tapped into my rear speakers. There is a molex*? Connector that I believe gets used and then the speaker wires go into that. I don't have that connector and instead I just stuck the wires in there as they fit snug because of the wire insulation. That was my first all by myself install so I asked a lot of questions and put a lot of it in that thread.

Re: Sub Installation Troubleshooting

I pretty much went through everything possible to figure this out and we ended up running a LOC to my friends amp in his car but using my signal and it worked flawlessly.

Ended up being the remote wire. I tapped it into one of the speaker wires off the amp that I already tapped into for the LOC and it would overdraw*? on the really low frequencies and pretty much tell the amp to turn off or not leave the speaker wires enough power.

So we just ran the remote to the back of the headunit which my friend told me to do within the first 30 mins of the install and it works amazing.

I'm such an idiot; I can't believe it was something so simple.

Thank you all who tried to help me out here. I've definitely learned quite a lesson with this whole thing.

Re: Sub Installation Troubleshooting

Lol! Dumb wiring mistakes happen to the best of us. He'll, on my recent install I couldn't figure out for about an hour why my JBL sub amp would not get out of protect mode... Until I realized I reversed the power and ground connections! O_o

I'll definitely have a video up by Saturday.

I did notice that there is a ton of air leaking from around the subwoofer and when I further inspected it, about all the screws that are holding it in are barely holding any wood. It also has some rubber gasket on it and not a silicon seal.

It still can push pretty loud but I guess I should look into sealing it soon.

Re: Sub Installation Troubleshooting

Maybe look into porting it? Just a suggestion unless porting it will take away the hard hits?

Re: Sub Installation Troubleshooting

Unless you have comp grade subs and box, porting would sound terrible in a single space like an suv. I'm an SQ guy as most of you know so Im probably biased on this one.
