Can anyone reccomend me a nav unit?

I'm looking, but its impossible to tell the good units from the duds.

Can anyone give me an idea of what i should get? Something not too expensive, has NAV and Sirius compatibility, everything?

Figure maybe we can turn it into a thread about system reviews.

I like the GUI of the new Pioneers. Rob has one, I'm sure he'll chime in.
But I really like the garmin nav in the kenwood units.

Those are the nicest IMO.

There's only one brand of receivers I'd purchase if navigation was high on my list of priorities; Kenwood.

They use Garmins GUI, which is unparalleled (IMO), and use NAVTEQ mapping technology, which is superior to TeleAtlas (Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse, etc).

I use a Pioneer, and have modded it (For free) to run NAVTEQ.

This thread has probably opened up a HUGE can or worms, and debate. TO me it's really what you like. All of them will have maps, Sat radio, and iPod.

I like the pioneer's for many personal reasons, but my biggest reason is that they run off windows CE, so you can mod the $hit out of it. I like that ability a lot. I update my maps with "Hacked" ones avery 6-8 months with no problem.

got ya...

personally i do want "out of the box".. but i also HATE when a GPS is wrong... haha

I'm 100% looking for a FIXED screen, i dont like the ones that fold out.

Maybe i'll take a look into kenwood.

Anyone know any good specific model numbers?

I don't deal with kenwood at all, so matt can probably help you with that one.

With pioneer you should look at any of the x-series, or the older f-series. They are the ones that you can mod to do tons of aftermarket stuff. The models with them are all basicly the same, but the higher ones (x910) has MSN Direct on it. That will give you things like traffic, stock quotes, and movie times.

I do like the new Clairion units too. You might want to check out the NX70. I can even get you a decent price on it if you like them and can't get it under a grand.

Every company has different levels of navigation. Just depends on what you want and how much you are willing to pay for it.

I really like the AVH-P4100DVD

but i have seen mixed reviews.... like the fact that you can't change the 24hour clock? i mean... really?

is there a hack to fix that? Is this a good head unit? (if i dont mind not having the navi)

 your thread title is 'Top Reccomended NAV systems?'

but you dont mind ditching the nav....

j?k sorry i couldnt resist.

I honeslty dont know a lot about them. I got mine for 425 shipped with the Ipod harness, the metra d-din adapter. i bought on price more than anything else. now that I have it I love it.

well i'd love to have a nav unit... but i REALLY like the 7" screens. I just like the look. I havent found a 7" screen nav unit that is under $1,000

Again, most double din nav systems are going to have the same features. What really set them apart from each other is the GUI.

In my opinion, the Garmin navigation interface is far superior to anything else on the market... that would mean Kenwood is far superior to anything else on the market.

Go to a store and play around with them, then draw your own conclusions.

Im in the market to buy a new one as well after mine got jacked. If youre buying fom Best Buy, wait atleast a month or so becasuse kenwood and Pioneer are coming out with new ones around that $1000-$1400 range with navi.

Look for the ones that dont require to havee a cd in at all times, thats a PAIN. idk they might have discontinued that or grown past that already though. lol

Single dins dont tend to break as often, or least the motor doesnt for the flip out.

I used to have the pioneer AVIC d3 it was good i loved it, i got it for $650 as an employee at Best Buy, the marku ups are nasty, so it is always good to wait a couple months and then it will drop.

The garmin system that kenwood uses for navigation i think is more customer friendly and easier to use compared to Pioneer.

But i would stick to Pioneer just my opinion.
