I'm getting LED project ready to go for install over the xmas break.
I want to hook up the LEDs and tap into a blade fuse under the hood for power. Has anyone with a 08 WK found a particular fuse that is on with the headlights or daytime running lights? I suppose another option is just a blade fuse that has power whenever the key is on.
Robpp informed me about a simple piggy back type fuse holder they sell, can go off of the headlight fuse and has the ground and power power wire you would need that work with the headlights.
I have not found a good start/run circuit yet on the newer vehicles. At least not one that you can actually run something from.
ALWAYS stay away from any Auto Shutdown (ASD) circuits. The ECU and associated modules are very sensitive to circuit draw and resistance.
Best thing to do is on any circuit used, use a 30 AMP 5 pin automotive relay and simply let the circuit trigger the relay and then run the load through the 30/87 relay pins.
There will be an 87A pin in the middle that would be hot all the time until the relay triggers, then it goes dead and the 87 pin becomes hot.
Your 12v+ goes into pin 30 from the battery.
Pin 85 goes to ground, and pin 86 is connected to the vehicle trigger circuit.

im on the same rt as tim, use relays to do anything that has to do with any type of lighting. thats how some shops do alarms and fog lights. they tap into the parking lights and if its running fogs or other types of lights, a relay is used as a trigger and the battery is the main sourse of the lights. here is how the wiring should be like. http://www.weendoggy.com/images/relay_wiring.jpg
^^^^over my head. Relays and how to actually tap into them are confusing to me. So you find an open/not used relay, then what? Have to run a power wire to the part being installed, with a ground or is the relay already grounded in the box?
Having the same issue on my 07 GC...want to add DRL's but can't really find any good info on what to tap into...someone said to use the AC system, but not too sure on that...any help?
Plug in here: Use M7 and add the tap. M7 can be set to either be hot all the time or with the key in either acc or run depending on which 2 holes you use.
Edit: Should have looked at the date of the first post. Holy zombie thread resurrection, Batman.
